Hi I'm Robert

I'm an Executive Consultant. I'm a Garbage Guy, I'm an Actor, I'm a Pilot, I'm a Husband, I'm a Father, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but many people know us as 'Mormons.' This nickname is derived from a book of scripture we use which was compiled by Mormon, a prophet historian. This "Book of Mormon" witnesses of Jesus Christ and is a second testament to the Bible about Jesus Christ and his teachings. I am a husband, a father, a private pilot, an actor, a research consultant, and a Garbage Guy. I spent several years working in the field of software technology and left to start a junk removal business 6 years ago so I could spend more time at home. I studied Japanese, Linguistics, Computer Technology, and Business in college. I was born in Utah, raised in Idaho, and live in Arizona with my wife and children. I spent 2 years living in Japan as a missionary and fell in love with the people and the culture. We eat a lot of rice and Asian foods at our house. I like acting. I have participated in plays, musicals, movies, and pageants depicting a tin man, a cowboy, apostles, pioneers, a missionary, a ruffian, a mobber, and my savior, Jesus Christ. I love the outdoors, hard work, flying, good movies and music, and spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a family that were already members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and became a member myself when I chose to be baptized at the age of 8. I am a member of the church today because I have grown to love and appreciate the teachings of Jesus Christ in my life. I know that God loves us. We are His children and He wants us to be happy. God reveals truth through prophets to help us be happy in this life and make choices that will allow us to return to Him. The church helps me make good choices that increase my health, happiness, and knowledge of eternal truths. Regular participation in the church strengthens me to resist temptations to make bad choices which would limit my happiness.

How I live my faith

I love the opportunity to learn with and teach others at church. Some of the things I have really enjoyed include working with youth as a Sunday School teacher or as a leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. I enjoyed helping boys and young men learn camping and outdoor skills as well as values of being Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent as taught in the Scout Law. I currently work with other men at church and help coordinate home teaching visits to families in the neighborhood. My family and I have enjoyed being involved in outdoor theater with the church as volunteer participants in pageants held in Nauvoo, Illinois, and Mesa, Arizona. The Nauvoo pageant is held each July and depicts the stories of early members of the church who gathered in Nauvoo as they learned about prophets, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, modern scripture, and God's plan for families to be together forever. These early church members eventually became pioneers of another sort as they traveled across the country to settle in Utah and other areas of the Western United States. We were able to dress in period clothing to represent those pioneers and share their stories with others while sharing our own feelings and conviction about the blessings of having the gospel in our lives. The pageant in Mesa, Arizona depicts the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament and is held on the front lawn of the Mesa temple each year for 2 weeks prior to Easter. It has been a wonderful experience for us to dress in period clothing and witness scenes from the life of Christ by acting them out. From a very young age, my children have learned the stories of Jesus visually in this way and can imagine what it would have been like to learn from Him personally and witness His miracles. This experience helped me come to know my Savior more personally and have a deeper conviction of His love for me and for you.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

God loves us as His children. He hears and answers our prayers. Believing is a choice and God respects our ability to choose. However, when we choose to believe, He gives us answers through his spirit. I have felt silence from God when my heart was not ready to receive and act upon answers to prayer. I have also felt strong assurances and witnesses of truth when God knew I would believe and act upon the answers I received. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Speaking the truth has great power in our home. We talk openly about things that are good and identify clearly things that are not. We talk about consequences of choices and help our children learn to see where decisions to look at pornography will lead before they are presented with those choices on their own. Stopping the spread of pornography starts in our families. By identifying pornography for what it is, we strengthen our families against it's destructive influence and become an influence to others for good by our example. We chose to turn off the television and pre-screen movies and other entertainment before allowing them in our home. We choose not to watch movies with any questionable content and decline invitations to attend movies with others if they do not meet the standard of wholesomeness we have defined. When we excuse popular media choices by saying 'it isn't too bad...' or 'it was good except for that one scene...,' we weaken our resolve to choose only those things that are good and allow things that were once offensive to become commonplace in our minds.
