Hi I'm Val

I am a Mormon

About Me

I come from a large family, I have been happily married for many years and I am now a Grandpa. I served my church as a missionary for two years in the country of Peru where I learned to speak Spanish. I was 19 years old when I served. I believe it was the best part of my education and just like the rest of my education I was responsible for my own expenses.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family of Mormons, but that is not why I am a Mormon. For me to remain active in this church I had to be converted to the gospel just like anyone else. At the age of nineteen I took all of the savings I had and served a two year mission as a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the country of Peru. I believed with all of my heart in the truthfulness our message, but until I had the opportunity and responsibility to teach others and defend what I believed, I didn't truly know what I believed. I could not speak Spanish, but I had been taught that we have the gift of tongues. I quickly learned that I could be blessed with the gift of tongues and that we can receive answers to our individual prayers. I learned to love and understand the scriptures in a way I never knew was possible. I developed a personal understanding of my relationship with the Savior and Our Heavenly Father. I saw what the gospel of Jesus Christ can do for people as I saw many lives transformed. I stand as a witness of the fulfillment of prophecy as the true Church of Jesus Christ has grown from six members in 1830 to millions world wide. I feel extreme joy, because I know first hand what the gospel does for individuals, families and countries. This is truly the Church of Jesus Christ. I encourage you to discover for youself as I have who He is and what He wants for all of us. He knows and loves each of us personally and in His holy name I leave you this witness.

How I live my faith

I serve my church anyway I can. I have been a Scoutmaster for several troops of Boy Scouts of America, which were sponsered by my church. I am an Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank a young man can attain and I have three sons who attained the rank of Eagle. I love to teach the gospel and I have served as a teacher on many ocasions in various organizations within my church. I am currently serving as a missionary among the Hispanic people where I introduce them to the church and do all I can to help them integrate into our society. I have learned to love these people dearly.

What is being a Mormon like?

Val
It is an awsome responsibility and blessing. We stand out in the world and people notice that we are somehow different. The truth comes from many sources, but the best source is from our Father in Heaven. We access this truth through his prophets and the scriptures. Learning the truth is a lifetime persuit and as I learn more truth I gain confidence because I understand my relationship with the Savior and my Heavenly Father. I must live what I believe to the best of my ability, which makes me a diciple of Christ. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Val
The word Mormon comes from the Book of Mormon which is a book of scripture and another testiment of Jesus Christ. Mormon was a prophet in the American Continent who compiled the records which now make up the Book of Mormon. The real name of the Mormon Church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. Many do not believe that we are Christians because we do not use the cross as a symbol of our church, but that is because we worship the living Christ. He was born to Mary, but his father is God (our Heavenly Father), therefore he had power over death. Because of his divine sonship he could atone for our sins. God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are three seperate individuals who make up the Godhead. All three hold the title "God" but each is an individual. Because no unclean thing can be in the presence of God, we must be pure if we want to return to live with him. We can only be purfied again because of the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is our mediator with the father and the ony means by which we can return to his presence. Without Jesus Christ we have no religion. Show more Show less
