Hi I'm Sylvia

About Me

When I knew I wanted to marry my husband who was living 1600 miles away at the time I told him I could live anywhere in the world but I had to know that my family could be together forever and for that to happen he'd have to be a member of my faith. He told me that he would look into it my faith but he wasn't going to do anything he didn't personally believe. I remember thinking, "Perfect. I know we'll be together forever." I was 32 at the time. After 7 years of waiting our daughter Sydney was placed in our family. She was welcomed with sheer joy and the purest love I've ever felt. Our son came two and a half years later and I was amazed to feel that love again. I've been a member all my life and have discovered over and over again that Jesus Christ loves each one of us with a perfect love and has a perfect plan for each one of us.

Why I am a Mormon

There is nothing that brings me as much joy as knowing that there is a God and He has a plan for each one of us. I know answers to questions about why we’re here, who we are and where we are going. I’ve studied other religions and appreciate the truths that each has. There are so many beautiful concepts woven throughout so many different religions but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a restoration of all the things that Jesus Christ himself organized through his prophet Joseph Smith. I am so thankful for all that Joseph Smith did to bring about the restoration of the gospel. From a young age I knew that the Book of Mormon was true and that Joseph Smith could not have fabricated it. As I gained more and more experience reading it for myself it became all the more evident that it was a divinely inspired book. This book has changed my life for the better and there is great power in its pages. I love being a Mormon. I love our history and our legacy. I love our hymns and our traditions. Most of all I love knowing that my family can be together forever someday and “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelations 21:4

How I live my faith

I have the responsibility to work with the men and women of our wards who spend 2 hours each Sunday with the 18 month to 3 year-old crowd. I visit different nurseries and help the leaders create an atmosphere of love and learning--an environment where testimonies can be nurtured. I've heard it rumored that if Christ were to come visit one of our church buildings the nursery would be the first place he would go. I know that the Savior loves the little children and I do too!

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Sylvia
No! In fact, one of the things I value about our ward is the variety of opinions and ideas about current events. We can, however, usually find common ground on modern day revelation and gospel principles and that is the bonding element among discussions. Show more Show less
