Hi I'm Kevin

I'm from California, I love baseball, I'm a licensed attorney, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love following baseball and watching a game either on TV or at the ballpark. I enjoy camping, hiking, backpaking, fishing and other outdoor activities with my family. I am also an avid gardener. I am married and the father of four children. Although being a father is a tremendous challenge, the rewards are wonderful.

Why I am a Mormon

Shortly after high school I learned some of my friends were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After hearing about the idea of eternal marriage, I became curious and asked a few questions. One of those friends gave me a copy of the Book of Mormon and invited me to read it. They told me that I could learn more about what their church believed by reading the book and praying about its teachings. Although reading religious books and praying was foreign to me, I agreed to read the book. I found the book to be compelling in the plainness and simplicity with which it taught about Jesus Christ. After some time I began visiting church with my friends to learn more. Although I remained skeptical, there was a feeling I couldn't explain that came when I read the Book of Mormon or attended their church. Eventually, I met with missionaries from the church who taught me about all of the church's beliefs. When my friend saw that I was still unsure about the teachings they asked me if I had prayed to ask God about the things I had been taught. I admitted that I had not and they told me that the only way I would ever know if the things the church taught were true was by asking God. I decided that I needed my own answer about the teachings of the church about a year after first receiving a copy of the Book of Mormon. I arranged for a time and place that I could be alone and, as I had been told I could, expressed my confusion about the Mormons and my desire to know if what they taught was correct. After praying for a few minutes a feeling came over me that I had never felt before. Like a sudden stroke of knowledge, a peacefulness came over me and at that moment I knew the Mormon church was truly God's church. He answered my prayer and gave me the knowledge that I didn't have. Soon after I was baptized into the church and I have spent my life trying my best to follow the example of Jesus.

How I live my faith

I try to help my neighbors by doing simple things like putting out the trash cans or participating in community service projects (like improving the local nature center). I volunteer as a local assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America because I believe it's an opportunity to help teach young boys to be morally strong in a difficult world. My wife and I always have a family night each week with our children. During this time we play games, enjoy being together, and take some time to learn about and discuss how we can follow the example of Jesus Christ. I believe that the Lord will help me to be a good father and husband if I ask for His help and then do my best each day to follow Him.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that we are only saved by the grace of God. We must believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and accept Him into our lives. We also believe that someone who has sincerely decided to follow Jesus Christ will show gratitude for God's saving grace by following His example, helping others, and generally doing 'good works'. The Savior taught that 'by their fruits ye may know them'. We don't believe that salvation can be earned by 'good works', but we do believe that a sincere follower of Jesus Christ would follow His commandments. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Priesthood is the authority, or permission, and power from God to do things He would do for His children if he were on the earth. Examples of things that must be done by someone who has this permission from God include baptizing and giving the sacrament of the Lord's supper. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

When we decide to become a member of Jesus' church the scriptures teach us that we must first be baptized by immersion (going entirely under the water) to be forgiven of our sins and to follow Jesus' example of being baptized. Show more Show less
