Hi I'm Susan

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the wife of one wonderful man, mother of five great kids, and a school librarian too. My husband and I have been happily married since 1989, and love and respect each other very much. I had the opportunity of staying home with our children, and only started working outside the home when our baby started school a few years back. I love being able to work at my kids' school, where I am still there for them, and even get to know their friends! I love to read, (surprised?) cook, blog now and then, and spend lots of time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement provides for me the foundation for JOY, even in the tough times. I know what I'm doing here on Earth, and why. I know where I'm going, and that everything here is temporary, and that's okay. In fact it makes all the struggles so much easier to work through. I am CONTENT. The gospel gives me CLEAR expectations for my own life, as well as what to teach my children, for them to be most happy in their lives. I can't imagine parenting without it!! Believe it or not, I'm very much enjoying being a mother to teenagers! It gives us instructions for a happy life here as well as a happy eternity in the life to come. The gospel teaches me about life before I was born, here on Earth, and the life after I'm gone and gives me such comfort when loved ones die. In fact, sometimes I find myself almost jealous in my anticipation of returning to Heavenly Father and loved ones already gone! Indeed, "the sting of death" is instead sweet, as our loss is only temporary. Jesus already provided the solution! I am SO grateful that my wonderful husband and I can be together after this life, and that our children will also be ours forever! Our marriage, "for time and all eternity", makes that possible. Our covenant marriage makes us work hard to keep our marriage worthy of "time and all eternity" - we want to be able to enjoy that eternity together! Being a Mormon allows us to find the same doctrine taught worldwide, in it's fullness. It provides us with a family anywhere we go. I know my children will find the same support group throughout their whole lives, and that's comfort to a mother's heart!

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon allows us to contribute to the success of our church organization through participation. That also challenges us to develop in ways we may not otherwise choose to! Sometimes we have to stretch way outside our comfort zone, but when we are willing, the Lord makes us capable. Before I married my husband, I had the opportunity of serving a mission to the wonderful people of the Philippines, on the island of Mindanao. I have had the opportunity over the years of working in the Church with the women, the children, the young women, the youth, Cub Scouts, and leading music. I have regularly sung in church choirs for as long as I can remember. I loved being a secretary for two different groups - the children's and young women's organizations. I loved going to girls' camp with the young women, helping them to feel the Spirit of the Lord in their lives as they developed faith and skills to cope with the challenges of this world. I have also assisted in ASL interpreting in our church services.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Yes, yes, yes! I am SO thankful for this doctrine! The fact that I can be together forever with the love of my life is such a blessing to me. It also makes both of us work that much harder to keep our covenant. We are going to very much enjoy eternity together, since we work at it here. Marriage is never easy, but I have found that if I focus on the things he does that are good, right, & beautiful, those FAR outweigh the weaknesses, which are temporary anyway! They way I see it, he and I will both be perfect in the eternities, so we can hold on for now, focusing on and enjoying the strengths we each have until we get there! Same thing with my kids! Jesus Christ's atonement makes all of this possible! Show more Show less
