Hi I'm Laurie

I dreamed of being a wife and mother. Now I'm living the dream! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was excited about, and felt I was ready for marriage and a family of my own the moment I set foot in college. However, it was not until years after I had graduated and had advanced in my chosen career path that I finally found my sweet husband. Now we enjoy a perfectly imperfect companionship! I am grateful that I longed for marriage for so long because now, even when disagreements arise, I never doubt that my decision to marry this man was the right thing. We recently became the proud parents of a beautiful, happy baby boy! Motherhood is the most difficult and yet most fulfilling role I have ever filled. My husband is still in school and can only work part time, but it was important to us that I be home with our little one. We make due by exercising faith, keeping a tight budget and going without a lot of wants. Every sacrifice is more than worth it. I do not believe there has ever been another woman on earth who has loved her child more than I love mine! I am happiest when we are all together. We love to be outdoors - especially camping, hiking, and boating/waterskiing. We also love to sing and perform. Marriage and Motherhood truly are every bit as wonderful as I had always dreamed they would be!

Why I am a Mormon

There are a lot of things I don't understand and I make a lot of mistakes. I need my loving Father in Heaven to guide me in my decisions. I need the Holy Spirit to help me identify what is right by testifying to me of truth. I need the Atonement of Jesus Christ to cleanse and heal my soul. I know God is our Father in Heaven and that He loves all of His children - individually and equally. I know He wants me to be happy and return to live with Him again so He has provided all of the keys, ordinances and principles necessary for this to be possible. I know that these are all available in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I know He has called a living prophet who receives direct revelation from the Lord and has authorized His power to be used by worthy men on earth to perform miracles, just as in days of old. I know He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to atone for my sins, to heal, to change, and perfect me. He has given me the precious gift of the Holy Ghost to provide guidance and comfort. I know that He wants me to have a happy marriage, to be successful as a mother, and to live with Him and my family for eternity and has made this possible through the covenants and blessings of the temple. I know that all of this is true, because I know that He loves me!

How I live my faith

I love serving and am grateful for the blessings I have attained through church service throughout my life. I have served as a teacher for children of all ages as well as adults. I have planned and organized activities, particularly among young single adults. It has also been my privilege to serve in many different leadership responsibilities. All of these oppotunities have helped me learn organizational, management, teaching/public speaking skills, but most importantly they have strengthened my testimony of the gospel and of the love God has for all of his children. It has increased my love for Him and His children as well. I am currently serving as a music coordinator. It is my job to choose hymns for us to sing together that will invite the spirit of God to speak to our hearts and teach us more about the topic we discuss in our lesson that day. I love music and I know that music is a special tool that Heavenly Father uses to express love and to give guidance to children. Music can penetrate our hearts like nothing else can.

What is being a Mormon like?

Laurie
It is wonderful! We are organized into wards so we have instant friends wherever we go! We attend church for 3 hours every week where we are edified and renewed for the week. While there, we serve one another without compensation - helping us learn selflessness, charity, and important life skills. We refrain from practices that could harm our body - such as alcohol and coffee. We focus on the family and are encouraged to set aside one night every week where we do nothing else but spend quality time with our family. I love it! Show more Show less
