Hi I'm John

I am a husband, a father, a swimmer, a technology enthusiast and a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the central valley of Northern California. After marrying my sweetheart and graduating from college I moved to Arizona. I love to travel and my business has taken me to Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan, and mainland China numerous times. Since 8 years old, I have been a competitive swimmer and am still actively involved in US masters swimming. Today my two kids participate in swimming as well and I enjoy going to the pool on the weekend to get a few laps in with my son. Recently, my son and I have also taken up hiking as a way to spend time together, enjoy the outdoors and stay healthy. I also enjoy a good book (non-fiction only), programming computers to make my life easier, beautiful vistas (mostly from the top of mountains), holding my wife's hand, and taking lessons from my daughter on how to be fancy.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family where my mom had been a member of the church all of her life and my dad was a recent convert. We didn't go to church much as kids. When I was about 13 years old I decided it was time to figure out whether the Church was true or not. After studying, reading, attending meetings, and praying. I knew for myself that the Church was true. The gospel of Jesus Christ has shaped me into the man I am today. It has brought me all of the blessings I enjoy and influences my interactions with my wife, my children, those I work with and come in contact with on a daily basis. The gospel is really about becoming more like our Savior Jesus Christ. I can't imagine my life without the knowledge I have that Jesus is the Christ, that Joseph Smith is a prophet and that the gospel has been restored to the earth today in all of its fullness.

How I live my faith

I work with the young men in my local congregation. I have specific responsibilty for the young men ages 16-18 that haven't graduated from high school yet. This service opportunity has been very rewarding. Watching young men who are at a stage in life, where temptations are in some cases, at their peak, make good decisions has brought me a tremdous amount of joy. Seeing them serve others, keep God's commandments, study the gospel, and treat others with kindness is something you don't see every day and gives me a feeling of peace and satisfaction. My wife and I are committed to living the gospel and trying to be a little better every day.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

John
Joseph Smith was an instrument in God's hands to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth. We don't worship him. We worship the Father and the Son only. I am however, very grateful for all that he achieved in his short life on earth. Show more Show less
