Hi I'm Ken

I am a convert to the church. I joined as a teenager!

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of four boys and one beautiful little girl. We love hunting for our own Christmas tree each year in the mountains, watching one of the boys play ball, or doing buckin' broncos in the living room. We are not in any record books, halls of fame, or movies, but I am happily married and have a lot of laughs with my kids. And that to us is very extraordinary.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 15 years old I had a friend invite me to a "seminary class". This is a scripture class that is held for the youth of The Church before or during school each day. This is where I began to learn and know that God knows who I am. I was not raised in any church and had little understanding of God. I did believe in God, but was not really sure what that meant to me. At the young age of 15 I learned that God really knew a teenager in the middle of this great big world, and He loved me! I felt this. I wasn't sure of much at that time, but I knew these things. I also new that I wanted to learn more about Him and how He knew me. Because of this desire, I have gained faith in prayer. I know that God will answer me. I know that there is a prophet on the earth today, and he is the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love how I feel when I am doing the things that Heavenly Father has asked me to do.

How I live my faith

The most important way I try to live my faith is in the way that I treat my family. I am so grateful for my wonderful wife. Jesus Christ was so kind and personal with the women that he encountered, and I try to emulate that in the way that I treat her. I hope my wife would agree. Also, as a family we try spend a little time each day reading the scriptures, praying together and talking about how to become more like Jesus Christ. In our congregation ward I try to help with the missionary effort. You may have seen some of our young missionaries in your community. They are not hard to spot. They are the ones that wear white shirts and ties and sometimes ride bicycles. By the way, the church does have young ladies and older couples that serve as missionaries. I try to help the missionaries find people that might be interested in learning about our faith. I love working with these missionaries! I believe that they represent the Savior himself and they have a great spirit that attends them. This is evident when you very first meet them.

What do Mormons believe about the Holy Ghost? Who is the Holy Ghost?

Ken
The Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit, has become a dear friend to me. This is one of my favorite parts of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the one that helps me know truth when it is taught. As I sat in that little seminary class room, I know now that I was "feeling" the Holy Ghost. He helps me know what I am feeling is right or wrong or real. For me, when the Holy Ghost is with me I feel like everything is good in the world even when things are hard. I feel joy. Also, I just know something is right. As the bible tells us in St. John 1426 the job of the Holy Ghost is teach us truth and help us remember things. I believe that the Holy Ghost is an individual, as are God and Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost helps them in their work to help us know God and Jesus and help us return to live with them when this life is over.    Show more Show less
