Hi I'm Zach

I grew up in Washington State, played football, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in a small town in western Washington where I was blessed with the opportunity to be surrounded by the great outdoors. As a result I have grown to love the outdoors and enjoy doing things like camping, hiking, canoeing, hunting and fishing. In high school I was the Editor-in-Chief of our high school newspaper and participated in several other clubs and activities. I am currently a full time missionary in the state of Arizona, but when I finish I look forward to college and eventually law school.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is what kept my family together. When I was about 14 years old two missionaries knocked on my family's door and told us that they could help strengthen our family. My family had recently been experiencing some very difficult problems and my parents were slowly drifting apart from each other, but they had previously decided that they were going to try one more thing before they gave up. When the missionaries came by and taught us about the Gospel of Jesus Christ my parents decided that they would give it a try. Even though all of our problems weren't solved immediately we gradually became a stronger family by living the teachings of Jesus Christ, including faith in God and each other, repentance, forgiveness, and working together towards the common goal of an Eternal Family. We began to attend Church together. We began to read the scriptures, including the Book of Mormon, together. We prayed together as a family. As we did these things we began to be a stronger family. Today, ten years later, we are a strong and active family. I know that Jesus Christ and His teachings can heal any wound, no matter how deep and how metaphorically infected it may be. I continue to try and live my faith today, however, not because of what it did for my family but because I personally know that it is true. As I read in and prayed about the Book of Mormon, the Holy Spirit testified to me of the truthfulness of the message that it contains. I felt the peace and comfort of the Holy Ghost first hand as it helped me to realize that these things are true. Joseph Smith was a prophet. Even though the church that Jesus Christ started was lost for a time it has been restored onto the Earth once more. As the leader of that church we have a living prophet today who God talks to and directs to help us. He isn't silent and He wants to guide us today, all we need to do is ask.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a full time missionary in the state of Arizona, but previous to that I helped out in the young mens' program. I was the assistant scoutmaster and really did my best to help other youth try and decide to continue to make correct choices. I have alway felt that the most powerful way to demonstrate our love for the savior and His Gospel are by living it. I do my very best to be an example of the believers in word and deed. I know that I am not perfect but I don't think that our imperfections should stop us from trying to do the best we can and then doing better than that the next day.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Zach
What the missionaries will share is a message about Jesus Christ, and how we can grow closer to Him through the restoration of His church on the Earth. They won't condemn you for doing anything or force you to do anything, but they will be there to invite you to learn more and apply what you learn. They will be there to guide you through the process of asking God if these things really are true and recognizing your answer. One thing that you may notice is that when the missionaries  walk into your house and they begin to teach you is that you will start to feel different when they are there. You will feel the influence of the Holy Spirit when they are in you home. Show more Show less
