Hi I'm Sheldon

God is good! Jesus is my savior!

About Me

I am a 28 year old father of five. I got married to the most beautiful woman in the world in 2001 in the Portland Oregon Temple. I grew up primarily a baptist Christian, and I did not like Mormons. I did not believe them to be Christians, and I thought of them as an evil cult. In my ignorance, I only read about the LDS church of Christ through anti-publications, and the only goal was to discredit LDS believes. I often tried to use these arguments against my LDS friends, thankfully they were strong in their faith, and quite knowledgeable. It was only after I turned to God in prayer and asked him about this church when I started to understand that the church was not evil, and could possibly have some truth. My first time inside of a church building brought a feeling of peace and love, this was the beginning of a remarkable journey of knowledge and experience. I learned about the Priesthood or the divine power to act in the name of God, I learned about the atonement and repentance and the correct version of baptism which was taught by Christ himself. I learned about covenants and fasting and modern day revelation via a prophet of God. This church did not replace anything I learned as a child, but rather enhanced my beliefs about the bible and the way God answers prayers.

Why I am a Mormon

It makes sense! God is our father in heaven, he wants us to return to him with knowledge and experience from this mortal time here. Because of the fall of Adam we now have a resurrected savior!! Hallelujah! Because Christ came out of the grave and broke the chains of death, we can all do the same. The bible is the word of God, but there is a reason why there are so many Christian churches, many of which don't agree with each other, we have the The Book of Mormon which is a collections of writings from a group of Jews that fled Jerusalem and lived in ancient America. God guided and directed them and Jesus even visited them after his resurrection!!! (John 10:16) The book of Mormon locks down the correct interpretation of the bible with baptism, the sacrament, etc. It is the word of God and enhances the bible!

How I live my faith

Living my faith is not easy. The bible says that faith without works is dead, so I think it is useless to proclaim faith in God and then sit idly on your hands. I believe in loving God more than anything, I then believe in loving my neighbor. I like to let people know that I genuinely care about humanity and that we can all learn from each other. I have been fortunate to be called as a teacher at church numerous times. I have taught adults, teenagers and pre-teens about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and in depth topics. Home teaching is also something important to me. I am not a perfect home teacher, but I love my assigned families and I like to let them know I am here for them.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Sheldon
Everything hinges on this concept. Our belief about the nature of God is unique and enlightening. Jesus Christ is a resurrected being. He is perfect, powerful and full of love and mercy. Because his blood was shed and he broke the chains of death, we can now be resurrected as well, but it doesn't stop there. The power of the atonement is limitless as we can learn, grow and be perfected after death because of Christ. This all stems from our father in heaven. He is a glorified being of flesh and bone. He awaits our return after giving his only begotten (Jesus Christ) to atone for our sins. He wants us to be with him and be like him. Revelation 21:7 Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Sheldon
The book of Mormon says that all things prove there is a God, and modern science has even backed it up! The complexity of a developing child inside of a mothers womb, the dominion we have over the earth and responsibility to care for it and use it for our good, even the enormous universe with all the brilliant stars illustrate Gods mercy and power! If you read a beautiful hand written poem, and it moved you and educated you, but I told you it had no author and was simply created by a spilled bottle of ink, would you believe that? Why or why not? Well this earth is that poem, and God is the author! Show more Show less
