Hi I'm Jose Manuel

About Me

HI, my name is Jose. I am a clinical social worker, a father of five, grandfather of one, and happily married to a wonderful woman. I enjoy spending time with my grandaughter whenever she is in town with her parents or whenever my wife and I get the chance to visit them. In my trade I work with individuals and couples who seek to enhance their happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 13 years old my family and I joined the Mormon church after my father invited the missionaries to teach us. Prior to this, my father sought after a church that would bring our family together. Soon after we join the church we moved to the United States. My conversion didn't start until I read the Book of Mormon. I was 19 years old and I asked my Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon was true. I wanted to know this because I knew that if this book was true then Joseph Smith was a true prophet and I belonged to the true church. Just as soon as I finnished my prayer I opened the Book of Mormon and started reading it. As I did this, this burning but peaceful sensation came over my whole body, and I knew then that this was the answer to my prayer. I knew and I couldn't deny it. I am a Mormon because the Lord answered my prayer.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in diverse ways. At home, I enjoy visiting with my family, doing family prayers and reading the scriptures every morning with them. Sometimes my children are not fully awake when we read the scriptures but I know that they are getting something out of it. At church, I serve as a bishop, a calling I never thought that I would be doing. It is a very humbling experience for me to have this responsibility. In all reality, there are many obvious reasons why someone like me doesn't qualify to be a bishop; however, I did not choose to be one, such as every member of our ward has English as their mother language. I, in the other hand, was born in Peru, so my accent still sticks out like a sore thumb. However, I was called to be a bishop; and as as with everying calling, I glory in doing my best in serving the Lord's church in any capacity He asks of me. I love serving with the youth. They are more knowledgeable about the gospel then when I was their age. Their generation is more blessed and stronger than my generation.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Jose Manuel
Guidance, instruction, protection, and inspiration; and this is just the start. The Holy Ghost has blessed my family life beyond my wildest dreams. It has strengthen our knowledge about who we are, why are here on this earth, and where will I go after death. The Holy Ghost accentuates these truths more so when my journey in lifehas encounters "road bumps" in life. Such as the time when my nine old month baby had terminal cancer, or neuroblastoma. I received the knowledge from the Holy Ghost that he will live. Now, he is a healthy 19 year old and he is about to serve a mission in Argentina. The Holy Ghost teaches me, teaches my children, and makes me feel adequately strong in life. Show more Show less
