Hi I'm Tom

I grew up in Oregon. I have been a Learning & Development professional since 1984, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have enjoyed learning and helping others to learn about the world and especially about people and how we learn. I originally wanted to be a professor but have found that I can teach and help others just as well in a corporate setting. I love being a husband to a wonderful woman, father to our three children and grandfather to our growing numbers of grandchildren. I enjoyed playing tennis when I was younger and had more time, but found that doing things that our children enjoyed became more worthwhile and fun. We learned to ski together and even scuba dive. I now enjoy woodworking and photography when I can find the time.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised to believe in God and attended the Lutheran church throughout my childhood and teenage years. During that time, while I felt that the practice and commitment to living lives patterned after the Savior's life was not what I expected it to be, I had a singular spiritual experience around the age of 13 or 14 while serving as an Acolyte at a Christmas Eve candlelight service. As I sat there for the couple of hours in quiet contemplation, I received a witness that Jesus Christ was my Savior and that there was something special planned for me in my life. Years later, I met a remarkable young woman and learned about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was profoundly surprised and completely open to the notion that God and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to a young Joseph Smith and that he proceeded to restore the Savior's church here on the Earth. Since that fall day in 1977, my testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has continued to grow. The Gospel has provided peace and joy as we have raised our family. It has also been a great source of strength as we have dealt with life's challenges and made difficult decisions. I know that God our Heavenly Father lives and that His Son Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, that He leads and directs His church here on the earth. I love serving others and am especially grateful to hold His Priesthood and receive counsel and teaching from living Prophets of God.

How I live my faith

I have been blessed to have been involved in a wide variety of service opportunities in the Church where I have learned to grow as I have served. I have been involved in teaching all ages, participated in Scouting, and as a Home Teacher to a variety of families where I have been able to serve and teach. I have also been privileged to serve in a variety of leadership callings that have given me the opportunity to serve and learn. I always strive to be worthy to regularly attend the temple and be and example in my words and actions. I try to be a good example of Christ-like service in my professional life and with the variety of people that I meet and work with.
