Hi I'm Jonathan

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student. I just got my bachelor's degree and plan to go back for more. While at school, I am involved with the Italian club and a choir. I enjoy country swing dancing and pick-up sports.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that went to church every week and taught me to read and study the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I have attended church all my life. I find that the greatest happiness in life comes in serving other people. I have read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it is the word of God and have received answer to my prayers. I find that the teachings of the Church are the teachings of Jesus Christ and as I follow them, I am happy. I believe that families can be together forever and that through the restoration of the Gospel, the Lord has revealed how this can be. I love my family and want to live in a way that I can receive the blessing of being with them forever. The Book of Mormon is a great source of strength and of answers in my life. Often the Lord uses it to answer my prayers and provide guidance for my life.

How I live my faith

I recently returned from a full-time mission in Italy. It was a joy to be able to see people receive answers from God and come to feel of His love. I am currently a college student. I have recently accepted an assignment to help plan Home Evening activities. Family Home Evening is a tradition that the church encourages all members to institute in their homes. It involves setting aside an evening to be with family, to share a gospel message and pray together, and especially, to have fun together. As single adults living away from home, we hold home evenings together to build friendships and to strengthen each other in living faithfully. I am a home teacher, which means I have certain apartments that I am assigned to look after. I am assigned a home teaching companion and we visit at least once a month to share a gospel message and encourage the household to continue living the teachings of the gospel. We also look for ways to serve them and make sure that the church is aware of any special needs they may have. I am also part of a choir at the Institute of Religion. We put on musical missionary firesides, visit local high-school groups and encourage them to be involved in the church and to attend the Institute when they begin college. We are ambassadors for the Church Education System to help promote religious study during the college experience. I love being involved and finding ways to serve. I live my faith on a daily basis by asking for God's help through prayer and studying the words of His prophets in the scriptures. I know that He hears and answers me. I am at a point in my life where I have a lot of big decisions in front of me. It's easy to be uncertain about the future. I find though, that as I strive to live the way God wants me to live and to look for ways to serve others, I am confident that He will be there to guide me and that all things will work out for the best.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by multiple ancient prophets, just as the Bible was. The largest portion of the book begins 600 years B.C. when a prophet named Lehi predicts the destruction and captivity of Jerusalem and is rejected by the people. The Lord warns him to leave and leads he and his family from Jerusalem to the Americas. Lehi's posterity kept records on metal plates that were handed down through the generations by kings and prophets. Mormon, who lived about 300 A.D. was the prophet given the task of compiling the records of the prophets and combining them into a single record. After his death, his son, Moroni, also a prophet, finished the record and hid it unto the Lord to be preserved, as their civilization had become corrupt and would have destroyed it. It is called the Book of Mormon because Mormon is the Prophet that compiled it. Show more Show less
