Hi I'm Amanda

I have degrees in math and secondary education. I am a stay-at-home mom and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a son and two daughters. I enjoy gardening, cooking, reading - especially historically based literature. I am currently anxious to start reading about Brian Greene's String Theory. I enjoy making flyers and handouts in Photoshop Elements, although my skill in this is limited. My family enjoys hiking, picnicking (even if just in our backyard), and playing outside. We occasionally play around on the basketball court, and look forward to summers when we can swim outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I have attended the Mormon faith since I was born, however, I continue to attend and practice this faith mainly because it has taught me how to have a personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ. When I have questions I can't find an answer for, or when I need to do something really hard for me, I ask my Heavenly Father for guidance, then I follow through with ideas that come to me. I have felt God helping me so many times and have felt His love for me in ways indescribable, such that I can not deny God. The assignments I am given to do at church bring me closer to God and Jesus Christ and help me to become more like Him. And as I do what this church teaches, I find joy and growth, meaning and purpose to my life (even if it isn't until after the struggle).

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be Christlike toward others. When interacting with others I try to remember that they do not come from the same background as I, they have different strengths and weaknesses than I do, and when something offends or upsets me I try to remember that likely the offense was not intentional on the other person's part. I try to serve others, but I honestly am not very good at this. I often just don't know what to do to help others, but I feel becoming more Christlike and serving others are two main purposes for us to be on this earth, so I keep trying. I also live my faith by helping out at church. There I work with the girls ages 12-18 in our congregation. I teach them some Sunday lessons and help the girls plan weekly activities for themselves that will help them strengthen relationships with each other and other friends who want to join them, with the boys in our congregation of the same age-range, and with Jesus Christ and God. Read the next and final paragraph if you want to know generally what we teach them. We teach the girls about eight values - Faith (in Jesus Christ), Divine Nature (she is a daughter of God with divinity in her), Individual Worth (she is wonderfully individual and loved for who she is), Knowledge (she will be better off for gaining spiritual and secular knowledge), Choice and Accountability (she can choose for herself and learn and grow more like Jesus through the consequences of her actions), Good Works (to serve others), Integrity (to live her beliefs even when no one else is watching), and Virtue (to establish patterns of clean thoughts and behavior and to not participate in sexual behaviors before marriage and to be faithful to her spouse, when that time in the future comes for her).
