Hi I'm Jaris

I'm a husband and a father. I have 5 kids and like to play the piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I have 5 energetic young kids who we are constantly trying to keep up with and pick up after. It's a never-ending battle but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have a feeling that in a few years we'll be looking back on these years as the "tame" years. I work at home most days, which allows me lots of flexibility to spend time with my family. We love to play games and work in the yard and garden and talk and go out for ice cream. I like to play the piano and have played since I was 6 or 7.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe the church teaches the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness. God has a plan for us, Jesus Christ is His son and is central to that plan, and in order for us to return to live with God after this life, we have to learn and do certain things to demonstrate our conversion and commitment to follow Christ. The church teaches me those principles, and I believe them to be true because I have prayed about it and received a witness from the Holy Spirit. I believe that Jesus Christ directs the church today through apostles and prophets, just like He did anciently.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by studying the scriptures and praying every day -- individually and with my family. We attend church on Sundays and spend time during the week as a family teaching and learning how we can be better disciples of Christ. I try to serve others as much as I have time for, and I teach my family to do the same. We're certainly not perfect at any of these things, but we know it's the right thing to do and we try to do it as best we can.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

When you experience something amazing that has changed your life, it's a natural thing to want to share it with others. Missionaries proselyte because they believe that they have something valuable that others will want to know about. Much of the world doesn't know a lot about Mormons, so we send missionaries out into the world to help others gain a better understanding of who we are and what we believe. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Definitely not. Certainly Joseph Smith did a great work and we respect him very much and teach about him because of it. But as for worshiping, we worship God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
