Hi I'm Jan

I'm a wife, mom, & grandma. I work in health care. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My passion is cooking. I love to create new twists on old recipes and have friends and family over to eat. Our family loves to go camping; it is especially fun when our kids and grand kids can all get together to go. I grew up in Missouri but now live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where my husband is from. We are fortunate that my job is flexible so we are able to travel several times a year. One of our favorite trips is to Phoenix for baseball spring training...some sunshine and baseball are a nice break from the usual soggy spring weather at home.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the focus the Church has on families. Nothing is more important to me than helping young people (especially my kids) learn they are precious children of a Heavenly Father. A good self image is critical to resisting the snares of peer pressure (and Satan), avoiding drugs, alcohol and other addictions. The Church has so many wonderful programs that are both physically and spiritually healthy. I look around our ward congregation and see such clean, sweet spirits and it gives me hope for our sad world. I love knowing that by keeping our covenants to the Lord, my family can be together forever. I know this Church is true!

How I live my faith

My husband and I serve in the Young Single Adult Branch in our area. We are called to give support and guidance in a variety of ways to this 18-30 year old group of young people. We attend weekly activities, assist in employment searches, host a potluck once a month, give counsel when asked and teach lessons in Sunday school. Even though it has been many years since I was just starting out on my own after college I enjoy being part of this exciting time with these fine young adults. It is so gratifying to be able to help a young man or woman navigate this challenging and exciting time in their lives. In a few years my husband and I plan to serve a mission and we are thrilled to be able to serve the Church in a new way.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jan
No, of course not! We worship our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ. We honor the Prophet Joseph Smith for his part in restoring the fullness of the Gospel. He was called of the Lord for this restoration, and in spite of terrible persecution he persevered, eventually paying with his life at the hands of a mob for his work. We benefit today from the hardships he and the early Saints endured to build the Church. Show more Show less
