Hi I'm James

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am over 60 years old and have been a member all my life. My wife had three children, from her first marriage, and we added three more. I am very pleased with all of them, they are great people and good citizens. I flew helicopters professionally for over 20 years and have been in advertising and construction as well. I now work for a really tough, but fair, boss, my wife. We are both Realtors. Tough business in a tough market but it is fun and never boring. I am conservative in my politics but I vote the person and not the party if needed.

Why I am a Mormon

Even as a child I couldn't understand how a God could create this planet, populate it and then get interested in something else and forget about us. I couldn't understand how He could say He loves us and then DO NOTHING to help us. A major part of my testimony is the Plan of Salvation. The Plan gives me hope & direction and tells me how my Father has provided for His children and how His love is shared through the Gospel. It is an easy plan to understand yet it is extremely hard to implement. The old saying that nothing worth having comes easily; that is the key to the Plan of Salvation. 'Free Agency' isn't free. Everything has a cost. Even our guaranteed resurrection and the gift of forgiveness for our sins, was paid for by the suffering and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our 'Free Agency' is the key to the Plan of Salvation. We agreed, before our mortal birth, to come to Earth and to live by Faith, willing to live with temptation, physical illness and the destructive events caused by both man and nature. We agreed to this because the alternative was to come here without 'Free Agency' and be commanded and forced in every aspect of our lives and to be 'protected' from making mistakes and from any misery that man or nature could create. That may sound like Utopia or even Heaven but for one small item. The full name of the Plan of Salvation is the Eternal Plan of Salvation and it not only deals with mortal life but that Spiritual life before mortal life and the life we will have after we are resurrected. It allows us to grow and learn and become more. Without agency we would be like those citizens living in what is now Russia that pine for the old Soviet Union, where they were told what job they would do, what education they could get, where they could live and even who they could and could not marry. What they long for is security. Security at the cost of freedom to choose, is prison. The Plan of Salvation gives us freedom Now and Eternally.

How I live my faith

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them" (Matthew 7:12). The Golden Rule isn't something that I live when it is convenient, it is the path I walk each day. "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another" (John 13:34). When we leave this mortal existence we will not be asked how much we earned but how much we loved.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

James
Polygamy, or plural marriage, has been both commanded to happen and condemned for happening by the Lord at various times in the history of mankind. The key to marriage to more than one woman is simple. When told to do so by the Lord, through His representative Prophet, then it is blessed of the Lord. When done in any other manner it is wrong and condemned of the Lord. The ancient Prophets, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and even David and Solomon were both allowed and commanded to participate in plural marriage. Both David and his son Solomon abused the practice in one way or another. In the Book of Mormon, the Lord told the prophet Jacob “for there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife and concubines he shall have none... for if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people otherwise they shall hearken unto these things Jacob 2:27-30. The key is, if the Lord wanted them to grow quickly as a nation then He commanded that plural marriage be in force. For a short time this was the case with my Church but is it was discontinued when the laws of the land were so written as to make it illegal and when the Lord said it was enough. Since then, any member of the Church found practicing Polygamy has been excommunicated from the Church. Show more Show less
