Hi I'm Shawn

I am a husband, and father to four boys. I'm glad I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married with four children- all boys. I am a dentist. Interests: family, education, music, automotive mechanics

Why I am a Mormon

My dad was raised Catholic, but joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 19. We wouldn't trade our membership in this church for anything. It truly is the church of Jesus Christ. My family's membership in this church has molded my character. Now, with a family of my own, I am trying to raise my children with a love for Jesus Christ and His gospel.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon starts by being the best Christian you can be. I read the scriptures every day, and pray for help so I can live that way. I go to church every Sunday to learn how Jesus wants me to live- and to feel the support of friends who are trying to do the same. At church, no one gets paid... so everybody helps to make sure everyone's needs are met. My job is to help teach the 12-14 year old boys gospel lessons on Sundays. Also, since the boys from church participate in Boy Scouts of America, I volunteer as assistant scout master during the week.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Shawn
No. We go on missions because we believe that it is only through Jesus Christ that we can have true happiness here, and live with God in heaven. Jesus Christ set the pattern for us. In the Bible, we read about how Jesus chose certain individuals and sent them to different locations to share His message (see Matthew 24:14; Luke 9:1-2; 10:1). In our day, we still follow Jesus' command to share His teachings with the rest of the world. In general, every young man who has the physical ability, is asked to serve a two-year mission. Young men are eligible to serve a mission starting at age 19. We take a break from school, employment, and dating so we can focus on sharing the gospel. Young women may also serve missions. Women are eligible to serve a mission starting at age 21. Husband and wife couples may also serve missions together- usually after the children are grown. Recently, the prophet and president of our church, Thomas S. Monson, reiterated the importance of sharing Jesus' teachings by going on a church mission. The teachings of Jesus have brought me so much happiness, sometimes I find it hard NOT to share! I was privileged to serve a mission in Hokkaido, Japan. There, I became fluent in Japanese, served in the community, and shared the message of Jesus Christ with anyone who was interested. Even though my official two-year "mission" has ended, I still try to share and help people understand the importance of Jesus Christ and his teachings. Show more Show less
