Hi I'm Joel

I'm a average guy from a small town. I'm a family man. I'm a weather man. And, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a very small town in the United States. I went to college and earned a degree in Atmospheric Sciences and I am currently working as a climate scientist for the Australian Government. I have a beautiful wife and three adorable children.

Why I am a Mormon

It was my first time reading the Book of Mormon; I was a little more than half way through the book when I read about a time when Jesus was teaching the people. He had finished his sermin and was about to leave. He looked out on the people and perceived that they wanted him to stay a little longer. The passage reads "And he had compassion on them". As I read these words I felt the compassion that Jesus has for me. The feeling came from the Holy Ghost. It was both subtle and unmistakable. In the next passage Jesus askes for any that are sick or disabled to come and he would heal them. Suddenly these were real people that I was reading about--real people with real lives who lived 2000 years ago. That night I became absolutely sure of three things: There is a God, Jesus loves me, and the Book of Mormon is true.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a clerk in the church. I take care of financial and membership records.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Joel
Love is our motivation to serve each other. Jesus taught "By this shall all men know that ye are my desciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:35). Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Joel
Many of my work mates think it is very strange that I do not go out for drinks with them after work. The Mormon Church has a law of health called The Word of Wisdom which includes not drinking tea, coffee or alcohol, not smoking tobacco, and not using any other harmful drugs. By obeying the Word of Wisdom I keep myself free from addiction to any of these substances. Freedom is not the only benefit. I also have a clear mind, a healthy body and deepened spirituality because I have choosen to obey this law of health. Show more Show less
