Hi I'm Cliff

I grew up on a large family farm, worked in a bank, and am now the business manager for another large family farm. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up on a family farm created many good memories. I enjoyed going out into the fields each day and working beside my father and four brothers. My parents taught me how to work hard and how to take time to play too. As a family we learned to snow ski and to water ski. We kept horses on the farm so we could take family horse rides in the mountains. My father taught us to enjoy nature both on the farm and beside a fishing stream. I met and married a wonderful, sweet girl from the city who courageously followed me back to the farm, where the first three of our five children were born. The oldest two loved playing in what they called "poof dirt". Live was good, but the economy changed, we lost the farm, moved to another state and I began trying a number of new careers in one town and then another. Banking was a good career that provided me a regular schedule so that I could consistently be home nights, weekends and holidays, helping my very busy wife raise our five active children. We didn't have much money, but we had time together, which was most important. Being active in our Church each week and using vacations to visit grandparents gave us variety to look forward to and many good memories that we can now look back on. Eventually an opportunity came to get back involved in a successful farming operation which has allowed my wife to retire early so she can be more involved in the lives of our now 14 grandchildren. Life is good.

Why I am a Mormon

I can never remember a time when I did not feel that God was real and that Jesus Christ is the Creator and Saviour of the world. My testimony has grown stronger and brighter over time as I have said my prayers, read scriptures and teachings of prophets, attended church and temples, and served my family and others. My wife is a great example to me and our children as she quietly and consistently follows Christ. I love teaching, answering questions, and sharing my beliefs with others because of how good it makes me feel. Many times I have been inspired by the Holy Spirit to understand and explain answers to questions that I had never thought of before that very moment as I opened my mouth to attempt an answer to a question in a Church teaching or counseling situation. I know that God is actively involved in His Church and my life whenever I reach out to Him. I get that same feeling as I read the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon. I know they are true records written by hard working prophets who served God by recording his words for those of us who would come after.

How I live my faith

I have lived in three states and two countries. Every place I live I have always found a branch or ward of the Church to attend and to serve. Serving in a number of different "callings" or assignments has given my life both variety and consistency. Although my specific duties or weekly activities in each calling have been different, sometimes planning and organizing, sometimes teaching and participating; the principles of seeking to do God's will and learning to love those around me has always been the same. In my journal I have recorded many times when I have felt I have received very specific guidance of what to organize or who to talk to as I have served.
