Hi I'm Riley

I love movies, I'm a Utah Man, and I enjoy Frank Sinatra. I'm also a Mormon!

About Me

I have lived in Utah my entire life and just recently returned from serving a mission in the Texas Houston East Mission and loving every minute of it. Currently, I am going to the community college, trying to decide what it is that I want to do with my life. As for my career choice, I haven't the slightest idea. It will come in time though. I have thought about getting into psychology. I love helping people in anyway. As for the time being, I am working as a teller at a local credit union. It is a job that I like, but it can be extremely stressful if your money drawer is ever off. I am a huge fan of movies! Any kind of movies action, comedy, drama, the occasional "chick flick". Anything that is worth watching aka clean!, I will watch. Frank Sinatra is a musical genius in my eyes. I was first intoduced to his music by my best friend. She was playing one of his CDs in the car and I immediately wanted to hear more. His music is so inviting to listen to because it doesn't have all the woes that the music of today has i.e. violence, drugs, sex, just to name a few.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the LDS church but I haven't always had a testimony of it. When I was 16, I remember thinking I needed to know if all this was true. I couldn't go off my parents testimony anymore. I needed a spiritual witness for myself. I had planned to go to a week long youth program centered around the church and told myself that if I still felt that I needed something other than the LDS church, I would go find it. I was so set on that plan that I even told my bishop (who is the head of the congregation at LDS services). He was very supportive of my decision. I went to the program which was located in Palmyra, New York, where the church was restored through Joseph Smith. While kneeling in the same grove of trees that the boy Joseph knelt in, the spirit bore powerful testimony that this church is Christ's true church, restored again to the earth. The feelings that were felt that day will never be forgotten. I can promise you that if you desire to know the truth of ALL things, go to the source of ALL knowledge and He will tell you ALL things. The Lord will never lead you astray. :)

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving everyday to keep the commandments and to follow the example of my savior Jesus Christ. Living in this day and age, it's easy to get distracted by the things of the world, but by continually reading my scriptures and praying to my Father, I can feel the Spirit in more abundance and know what the Lord expects of me. I also have the opportunity every sunday to teach Sunday School to the teenagers in the congregation. This is no easy task, seeing how teenagers are more interested in other things instead of the gospel, but it makes my job fun to be able to think back to when I was in their shoes and what kind of things would have gotten me excited about going to Sunday School. I can honestly say they are a blessing to me.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Riley
Mormon is merely a nickname that has been given to us by many people due to our belief in the Book of Mormon being the word of God. Also, many people believe that due to this title, we are not Christian because they assume we worship "Mormon". How very untrue that is! We don't want people believing that we do not worship Jesus Chirst. In fact, the church is named after our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Another name for members of the church are Latter-Day Saints. I always like to joke that people call us Mormons because they don't want to say "members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". It can be a mouth full of words haha Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Riley
They will talk to you about a lot of things but the main thing will be that our Heavenly Father loves YOU very much! Anything that is shared with you will be centered in Jesus Christ because He is the center of our worship. Because He loves us all, He has once again called a prophet to the earth. Missionaries will talk to you about God's Plan of Salvation, a plan that was set up by our Father in Heaven to help us understand not only our purpose in this life, but also where we came from and where we go when we depart from this life. Central to this plan is Jesus Christ's Atonement, which he performed so that we all will have the opportunity to live with our Father in Heaven again! Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Riley
In a simsple answer, no. The prophets and apostles have always said that the Lord needs every worthy and willing young man to prepare for a mission and serve Him, proclaiming the glad tidings of the doctrine of Jesus Christ. Young women are encouraged to start a family instead of serving a mission IF the opportunity presents itself. However, all those who are willing and worthy to submit themselves to the Lord's will are encouraged to serve Him, not required to. Show more Show less
