Hi I'm John

I'm a professional. I'm a dad. I'm a friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah but went to college and eventually a master's program in California. I love learning. I also love physical activity. I played football in high school and rugby in college. Now I enjoy hiking and skiing. I also enjoy my work at a financial services company. The best things in my life are my wife and little boy.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members of the church, but my testimony really came when I was in high school. Around my junior year I began to actually read the Book of Mormon consistently. It was as if someone were turning on the light in my life. Gradually, I felt happier and happier - more able to cope with disappointment, more able to see life from perspective that was longer than the few years, or months, or hours with which I usually viewed life at the time. As I left for college my testimony continued to grow as I was placed in a situation where I had to decide for myself whether or not to really be a Mormon. Because of my experience with the Book of Mormon, I chose to actively be involved in my faith, and as a result have continued to feel that same light grow in my life.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite parts of being a member of the church is the program of hometeaching. This is where I get to go with another member of the church to visit one or more families each month to see how they are doing and teach a gospel lesson. In turn, a pair of members of the church comes to visit me and my family every month as well. Currently, I get to visit a family with five wonderful kids who comes from a very different background from myself, and even speaks a different first language. It has been truly enriching for me to become friends with this family and share our lives and realities one with another.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

John
To me the The Book of Mormon testified that there was a God. As I read the book for the first time, it had a profoundly real impact on how I felt day by day. This effect proved to me that there really was a God, because I could find no other way that reading a simple book could have such a profound effect on me. In addition to its real effect, I think of the miraculous coming forth of the Book of Mormon. I know that a simple farmer boy from upstate New York, no matter how brilliant, could have written with such deep understanding of the human condition. It had to have come from a higher power, and that higher power must be God. Show more Show less
