Hi I'm Nick Walkowski

I'm a student studying Electrical Engineering and Mandarin-Chinese. And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am working on my bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and also studying Mandarin-Chinese in my spare time. I have lived in China for 8 months and I love the people, language and culture. I also enjoy lounging on the beach, reading, snowboarding, hiking, camping, and going on road trips.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church but having been surrounded by it my entire life I took it for granted. I stopped going to church when I was 15 years old. I went down a path that got me involved in many things that I never imagined myself being a part of. I got into a lot of trouble with authorities and I let my family down in many ways. I've always believed in my Heavenly Father and that he is out there watching over me. I never stopped praying to him. I would tell him that if he helped me to stop doing the things I was doing and provided a way for me to start over that I would return to His church in full-fellowship. I said this prayer many times and about 2 years ago my prayer was answered. I have been given a second chance and I know that my Heavenly Father, through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, has forgiven me of all my transgressions. I am happier now than I have ever been in my entire life. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for never giving up on me and for always answering my prayers.

How I live my faith

Being a member of the Mormon church has been a wonderful experience. I am constantly amazed at the service that the church renders to people all over the world. I am also amazed at the generosity of the members. These examples have had a lasting impact on me and the decisions in life. Growing up my parents always set a wonderful example to my siblings and I. Before opening presents on Christmas morning we would be taken down to the homeless shelter and would help in the soup line or pass out presents to less-fortunate children. I also have gained a love of travel and to serve those in need so I decided to combine these and go to China and teach English to children as a volunteer. I have lived in China a total of 8 months and have gained a wonderful new perspective on life and how people live in other countries. I have also witnessed the growth of the church all over the world and the strength and faith of the members. I am so grateful to my family and to the church for ingraining me with a desire to serve others. By serving others we are serving our Heavenly Father and becoming more like His son Jesus Christ.
