Hi I'm Jonathan

I'm from Boise, I go to Utah State. I sing, draw and climb stuff. I'm telling others about the gospel in Maryland-- I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an Idaho kid. I like to be outside in the dirt, I like sagebrush and tan grass and basalt outcrops on the side of the highway. I like mountains and pine trees and trucking 500 feet up a mountain that's basically one big scree pile-- just to be at the top. I like to get lost.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon is true. When people find out I was born into the Church, very often they tell me that I believe these things because my parents brought me up in them. That's only true up to a certain point. To be able to really believe in something, one has to find out it's true--for himself. That's what I did. I'm incredulous and I don't like to believe things without testing them or checking the facts. At the same time, I believe in and love Truth. I actively test and try the things I learn about in the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and from the living prophets. I apply them in my life, ask God about them, and if I feel good about them, I adopt them. In the doctrines of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I have, at least so far, only found truth. I know that God is my Heavenly Father, and that He loves me absolutely. I know that Jesus Christ is His Only Begotten Son, my Savior and Redeemer, and my friend. I know these things through the witness of the Holy Ghost-- through the pure love I have felt from God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being the guy that smiles back. Mormons are supposed to be people that live the Golden Rule, that make life not so terrible for everyone around them. I'm not perfect at it, but I figure that a smile helps everyone.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jonathan
We have all come to know that this Gospel is true for ourselves, and seen the happiness and light it brings to our lives, and that makes us want to share that experience with other people. It's like restaurants-- if I find some little hole-in-the-wall place that makes the best tacos I've ever had, I'll call someone and invite them to come try it too. It's not fun if I'm enjoying it alone. That's why we share. Heaven wouldn't be so great if I was alone there. Let's fill it up! This Gospel is about sharing; it's about inclusion and invitation. We want everyone to at least have a chance to taste it and know what it can do in their lives. Show more Show less
