Hi I'm Joe

I love my wife, I love my Faith, these are the things that make me happy in life:)

About Me

Currently I am working at a pizza place and occasionally at a local theatre company. Two years ago I returned from serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However before I left for my mission I was at my University, studying to be a theater designer. I was most interested in lighting design, though now that has become my side emphasis and I am focusing on my new major in Social Work. I know I can find direction in following what feels right as I pray for direction and then follow the promptings God sends me. So now that I am back from my mission, I got married and I am striving to search out what God wants me to become because I know He knows my full potential and will tell me what I can do best to build up towards reaching that potential. That is why I started looking into social work. While serving my mission I felt more empowered than ever before when I was helping people. I want that to be a permanent aspect of my life. If there is anything I learned as a missionary it is confidence in the fact that God will answer my prayers and the better I am at recognizing the answers, the more focused I will be in life. The past couple years have truly defined my faith and I confidently can say that I know who I am, a Husband, a Human Rights advocate, an Artist, and most importantly a child of God.

Why I am a Mormon

Well I started out a member of the church when I was eight years old and I was baptized. Though when I was baptized it was more out of tradition than a true understanding of what I was doing. A few years later though I was starting to get very confused in my life and started to wonder whether or not I was a part of what God wanted me to be. So I started searching and I was told that the best way to find spiritual guidance is to read the scriptures and to pray. So I began reading from the Book of Mormon and praying to ask God if it was true. One night as I read the book I got a clear impression in my heart that I needed to immediately kneel down and pray. When I prayed I had this amazing and overwhelming experience as I felt the spirit of God enter the room and into my heart. That is the first time in my life that I truly felt and recognized the Love of God. That experience also gave me the knowledge that the Book of Mormon is the word of God because I asked specifically and was told through the spirit. Due to this I had to realize, the prophet who translated the book was truly a prophet of God. Ultimately I am finding that everything about the church's doctrine is right because the Book of Mormon is true. This book is the greatest physical possession I have and it really is the keystone of my religion. Without the added knowledge which comes from the Book of Mormon and the Bible together I would not be where I am now.

How I live my faith

What I did on my mission was serve other people in whatever way was needed and when I taught people I invited them to learn of our message and to pray about it. I did this because I knew that when people do what I did, read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it's true, then they will receive an answer from God. If people do that then I promise they will feel God's power in their lives and it will change them, forever. Every day I feel little tugs at my heart pointing me this way and that around all the obstacles Satan puts in front of me. However I know when I don't follow the standards and commandments God has set for us in His church, I don't have that little feeling in my heart or at least I am less likely to recognize it. From experience I know this can be a spiritually and sometimes physically dangerous mistake. So I work every day to try and be better and learn more about my responsibilities as a latter day saint, in order to help me have as much of His spirit with me as possible.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Joe
Well the Book of Mormon is a collection of ancient scriptures just like the bible is. The real difference is that the prophets who wrote these ancient scriptures didn't live in the middle east, but they lived in America. It wasn't during our time either because the scripture in the Book of Mormon was being written at the same time the scripture in the bible was being written, just it was in a different part of the world. This helps me to believe God loves all of his children wherever they are in the world. He wouldn't just send prophets to one nation and leave all the rest in darkness. He wouldn't do it thousands of years ago and he wouldn't do it now. That is why I know, that God's church and his authority today are all over the world in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less
