Hi I'm Steve

I'm a doctor. I'm a medical volunteer. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of 1 daughter and 4 sons. I work as a physician in South Metro Denver. I love to ski and hike with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a 7th generation Mormon! Being a part of this church has blessed my family for generations, and it has blessed me. As I read the Book of Mormon, I feel inside that it is an inspired book. It helps me understand the purpose of life and helps me to follow Jesus Christ in my daily life.

How I live my faith

Because of my medical skills, I have volunteered with my church's humanitarian projects in Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia. In 2010, I volunteered with LDS Charities on the US Navy hospital ship Mercy. I served in the country of Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia for 2 1/2 weeks. We saw patients at clinics on shore and brought those who needed surgery out to the ship where Navy doctors and LDS Charities doctors performed the surgeries. I met and worked with capable US military personnel and 30 other LDS Charities medical volunteers from around the world who were all there to do their part to help those in need. Our church also donated several truck loads of humanitarian supplies to orphanages and women's shelters in Timor-Leste.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Steve
As a doctor, a medical volunteer, and as a Mormon, I have served people of many faiths in Latter-day Saint Humanitarian Services projects in Honduras, Guyana, East Timor, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa), the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville), Togo, and Mongolia. In each of these medical service trips our goal has been to help the people of those countries regardless of their faith. I have seen doctors and nurses trained, medical equipment distributed, and humanitarian supplies distributed to people in need, none of whom are Mormons. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Steve
In our church, we all do our part. Everyone has a "calling." No one in my congregation is paid by the church. I have had the opportunity to teach Sunday School lessons, to take scouts on campouts, to serve on event-planning committees, and to clean our church building. I have also helped can food for food banks, given speeches in church meetings, and served as an assistant leader in our congregation. In our church, we don't move up, and we don't move down, we just move around, and as we do so, we all learn and grow from our service. I'm so grateful for this opportunity--if our church had a paid clergy that did all the work of the church, I would have missed out on all those blessings! Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Steve
Our family has spent three of our summer vacations participating in the cast of the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York. The Pageant tells the inspiring story of the Book of Mormon. The most beautiful part of the Pageant is the visit of the Savior Jesus Christ to the American Continent after His crucifixion and resurrection. It was a wonderful experience to be a part of a group of 700 people on the stage all reverently looking up to the person who portrayed the Savior. It helped me to reflect on what it would have been like to be in the Land Bountiful the day of Jesus Christ's appearance. I have read and studied the Book of Mormon's account of the Savior's visit, and the Holy Spirit has confirmed in my mind and in my heart that this scriptural account is true. Last year my 18 year-old son, Jason, was selected to portray the Savior in the Pageant. Seeing him do his very best to reverently portray the Son of God was an inspiring experience for our whole family. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that it is another testament of the Savior. This wonderful book helps me to follow Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
