Hi I'm Carl.
the one on the right I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's kind of a long name, but I prefer it to Mormon.
About Me
When my dad was my age, I thought he was old. I don't feel old. True, I have seven children, some of whom have children of their own. (Yes, that makes me a grandfather). I am now retired. I am looking forward to serving a mission soon with my wife. My wife and I have been married for 46 years. I guess some would say that makes us old. I really love her. It may sound trite, but I love her more now than I did when we were young and in love. We are still in love, but it is a refined love that has happened over the years. There are things I like to do, but if someone says, "What are your hobbies?", I don't know what to tell them. I usually don't tell them I am a walker, but I am. I didn't used to walk for walking's sake. I started it after my two youngest started their newspaper route in our neighborhood. After a few years, they got tired of it and wanted to give it up. I wanted them to continue, so I worked a deal with them to do the route part of the time. Eventually I took over the route when they went to college. It became sort of a "forced" exercise program. I walked the neighborhood for about 12 or 13 years before giving up the route. Now I don't have to walk in the rain or the snow. I still walk regularly, but I walk because I like it and it is good for me. I also like to ride my bike when the weather is suitable. One year I made a personal goal to do a 50-mile ride. It was a good feeling to accomplish it.
Why I am a Mormon
I became a Mormon in large measure because my parents were. I have stayed a Mormon because I have come to believe it. It has been good for my life. It offers a hope and a promise I believe is not available to the same degree anywhere else. More than believing it is good for me and my family, I believe it is true. When one knows something is true, how can one possibly deny it or ignore it and go some other way. It is the center of my life. It is who I am.
How I live my faith
I am not better than other people, but I believe I should try to be better than I am. I am not a bad person, but I can be better than I am. I try to do that by living my religion. One of the things I do in that regard is to serve willingly in several church assignments. Serving brings blessings into my life, but that is not why I do it. I do it because it is the right thing to do and I like doing it. I have served on a local administrative council, as a teacher a class of my peers at church on Sunday, and I have helped in the management of a recreational property the church owns. I have also served as an officiator in one of the many temples the church has built around the world. These activities take a lot of my time, but I don't mind. I feel good when I serve. I believe living my faith not only includes going to church on Sunday and keeping the Sabbath day holy. I believe it means living my life each day in a manner to be true to what I believe.
