Hi I'm Cory

I'm from a small town, I love math, music and science. I love my family, and I love being me and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary. I learned to speak Spanish in order to be able to share the Gospel with everyone here. I have been a missionary for a little over a year and a half. It is the best experience of my life. I am the third of five children. I love all things academic. In fact most (if not all, I can't speak for everyone) of my family loves learning. I think a lot, about a wide range of things. I enjoy being in nature, I feel it helps to make me whole in a way that learning by books can't. I also love to dance, listen to, or play music (I play saxophone and a little bit of piano) I am not married, I have no children, but my brother and his wife are expecting their first child soon, so that will be a new experience.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because being a Mormon gives me comfort, knowlege and direction in life. Learning about the restored Gospel and living it's teachings helps me understand the world around me, which is one of my biggest inner needs. My father's family has been Mormon for quite a while, but my mother joined in her teenage years. I was really exposed to the Book of Mormon for the first time as a child. In the years leading up to my eleventh birthday, I read the Book of Mormon for the first time. It was the start of the direction my life has taken up til now. Over the years I have read it again and again. I have gone through times where I was much closer to God than others. I can honestly say that the Book of Mormon has helped more than anything else to keep me close to God, and to bring me back when I stray.

How I live my faith

I am a full time missionary. This means that all day ever day for a two year period is devoted to teaching others, and inviting them to pray about the message of the Restoration of the Gospel, and thus gain their own testimony of it's truth, then live it's teachings and ultimately come to know God and live his plan for them.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Cory
No. Everyone is allowed to choose. God gave us that gift and no human can take it away. We are urged to serve because it is God's desire for us and, in my experience serving a mission is the single greatest oportunity I know of for personal spiritual growth and development and helping those around you. Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Cory
Because Jesus himself taught that baptism is not optional if one wants to enter the Kingdom of God (see John 3:5). Being properly baptized is a step in all of our paths toward God, it is a promise to follow him. Through baptism we are cleansed of our sins and as such (if we continue faithfully following Christ) are fit to live with God (see 3 Nephi 27:19) Show more Show less
