Hi I'm Jared!

Husband, Dad, Linguist, Emergency Manager and Pilot. I'm also a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in Utah, the second of six children, under what some have said are 'sheltered' circumstances. I left Utah nine years ago and have since lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alaska and Washington. I received my undergraduate degree in Linguistics, completed my graduate studies in Emergency and Disaster Management and have over 2000 hours in multi-engine aircraft. Work has taken me out of my 'sheltered' environment and around the world: Chile, Europe, Japan, the Philippines and Antarctica; but the most rewarding part of life has come from marriage to my sweetheart and raising my two children.

Why I am a Mormon

Life is a journey; a journey that involves personal growth and progress. Being a Mormon has given meaning and purpose to my life through opportunity to serve those around me. As I've progressed on my journey, I have learned invaluable lessons from all that I've had opportunity to serve. The Church also teaches basic truths that have resonated with me such as the eternal nature of families. This simple truth holds a sublime promise: that following death, we may all be reunited with our loved ones. Since I've become a dad, family has become ever more important to me. The emphasis the Church places on the sacredness of the family is one of the cornerstone's of my beliefs.

How I live my faith

For as long as I've been a member, I've had opportunities to serve. I've served in the presidencies of the Men's group and the Young men's group. I've also been an instructor in Sunday school classes for all ages. Every member will have an opportunity to serve. These service opportunities have also been an excellent way to develop friendship's and community acquaintances everywhere I've lived. Service opportunities I have experienced range from helping neighbors move to reconstructing an elderly woman's home following a flood to funeral services, to baby sitting, to automotive repairs, to rice planting, to community beautification projects, and more! I believe it is through service that we learn to focus less on ourselves and our own problems, and begin to develop gratitude for all that we have.
