Hi I'm Rachael

I'm mom to four, with another on the way. I have a son with special needs. I love the beach. I'm a runner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I stay home with 4 busy kids, expecting our 5th (another girl!) in November. We have 3 typically developing girls and 1 sweet 6 year old boy with sensory processing disorder and apraxia of speech. His challenges in life are big for one so young. He is pretty time consuming and exhausting, but we love him fiercely. Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes our house feels small, our budget tight, and our kids crazy. But I wouldn’t trade my busy life for anything. I know that the Lord sustains us in hard things and that absolutely nothing matters so much as having a family – a good, strong family that sticks together and finds the best things in life. When I'm not herding my kids around, I love to read, cook and practice photography. I also just picked up running a couple years ago and LOVE it. I love the goal setting, the feeling of accomplishment after a race and chatting with my running friends on the trail. Our family loves to hike and camp and bike ride together. Life is good!

Why I am a Mormon

I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I was raised in the church and never really doubted, but I’ve prayed to know for myself and I’ve felt a powerful assurance that it’s right. I’ve read the Book of Mormon again and again and felt it make a difference in how I feel every day I read. I feel optimistic, peaceful, and comforted. I have felt the love of Jesus Christ for me individually as I try to follow Him and be more like Him. I know that He knows me and loves me and that He atoned for my sins. I am so grateful for the clarity of doctrine in this church – for the answers to the big questions about why we’re here, where we’re going after we die. God hasn’t forgotten about us - there’s a prophet on the earth today just like in Old Testament times. I love knowing that! I’m a Mormon because when I go to church and live as I’m taught there, I’m happy and confident and feel God working in my life.

How I live my faith

My faith is that God lives and loves me and sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for my sins and make it possible for me to return to their presence again. I know that I can be with my family forever and that what I do during my life right now determines my eternity. Those core beliefs help me focus my life, from the big things to the small things. I try not to waste time in the day doing things that don't matter. I read from the scriptures every day, I pray daily (and often!) for myself, my husband, my kids, for help with problems and out of gratitude for my blessings. Some days are discouraging and I’m not sure I can succeed, especially with a large family and a child with special needs. I keep going because I know that God is mindful of me and I feel His hand in my life, strengthening me to accomplish the hard things that come my way. I depend on the knowledge that with God, all things are possible. And if He is on my side, I’m willing to do whatever He asks.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Rachael
When I read the Book of Mormon and the Bible every day, I am more patient with my kids, more focused on things that matter most. Life feels clearer, less cluttered. I feel loved by the Lord and supported by Him, I am strengthened by the teachings and stories I've read and by the spirit I've felt as I've found time in my busy life to be still and remember Jesus Christ.
