Hi I'm Seth

I am a genealogist. I like to explore America's back roads. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a large, diverse, yet close-knit family. I was raised in Arizona and Utah. I love helping others research and discover their family history. I love to travel, and especially enjoy driving along rural roads while exploring small town America.

Why I am a Mormon

Both my parents converted to Mormonism in their youth. While I was raised in the faith, I made poor choices in my 20's that resulted in me not actively participating in either the Church or the Gospel for several years. I finally admitted that I wasn't happy with my life, and I wanted to understand how I could become truly happy and at peace. One night, I was writing in my journal, expressing these feelings, and I remembered back to my youth, where I was surrounded by wonderful leaders in the Church. They came from many different backgrounds. Some where doctors, lawyers, business leaders, or teachers. Others were custodians, handymen or brick layers. They each led exemplary lives of service to others, and gave freely of their resources, and never complained about their challenges. But I realized at one time or another, they each had shared their testimony to me, and I knew that they knew the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. That night, while pondering these things over in my journal, I suddenly felt a feeling of peace and comfort come over me, and I knew that the things that I was taught in my youth were true. The leaders from my youth helped me to understand that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is real and true, and that the fullness of it is found in the very church He has restored to Earth in our time, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have since made changes in my life and have now returned to the Church, and while I am not free of challenges, I have an assurance that God knows and understands me, that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and that I am happiest when I am able to freely give back to others. I am grateful for this knowledge and testimony of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there are many opportunities to serve others. I greatly enjoy getting to know members of my congregation, and I appreciate the diversity of their life experiences. We are more than a Sunday-only gathering of people - we are able to interact with each other all week long. Sometimes, I am able to cook a meal for someone, or help someone move in or out of their home, or help someone with their house cleaning, or someone else with their family history research. We are more than just a congregation, we are a family. But this is not limited to just members of the Church. We enjoy coming together and being able to help any and all of our neighbors and community members, such as serving side-by-side at our local food bank and our local thrift center.
