Hi I'm Chris

I was born and raised in the States, lived with my wife and kids in China for six years, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm happily married with four children. I live in a suburb of Seattle. I work in wealth management. I coach soccer, lacrosse, and whenever possible take my kids skiing. After graduating with my MBA from University of Washington, we moved our young family to China where we ran a business for six years. Two of our children were born there. So, China has become a big part of our family's life. I like to bake, am learning to BBQ, and am completely not handy at all--good thing I have brothers!

Why I am a Mormon

Honestly, I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but there comes a time in everyone's life when they need to decide what they believe for themselves. For me, it was when I was 19 and deciding whether I wanted to serve as a full-time proselytizing missionary. Ultimately, I started with the basic building blocks of faith. First, I prayerfully confirmed there was a God and that he was my Father in Heaven. Then, I confirmed my belief that he had a plan for me. Then, I confirmed, and I remember the experience like it was yesterday, that Jesus Christ was not only God's Son, but also my elder brother (spiritually) and my Savior. The answer to each, but especially the last, question was clear and distinct. I knew the truth, and from there it was easy. I knew there was a God, that He had a plan, and that Jesus Christ played a role in that plan. It was logical that God would choose righteous representatives (Prophets) like he did in Old and New Testament times, and it seemed natural that those Prophets regardless of time or geographic location would record their experiences, beliefs and revelations received from God. The LDS Church is the only Church that believes in a living Prophet, current revelation, and the possibility of scriptures beyond the Old and New Testament. Since that time, I have taken the opportunity to prayerfully confirm additional truths, so my beliefs are supported by personal revelation from God directly to me. That is a wonderful blessing, on for which I am extremely grateful.

How I live my faith

We have a completely volunteer Church, which means that we all have a lot of opportunities to serve. I have participated in a lot of different roles from teaching young children in Sunday School, to working with teenage boys. Currently, the role I fill is as a counselor or adviser to our congregation's bishop (which is like a pastor). Working with the bishop, the other counselor and I do our best to handle the administration of a congregation of 300+ people, which allows the bishop to focus his time and efforts on ministering to individuals and families. Basically, my current title means I do a lot of dishes and sweeping so others can fellowship. There is no ladder or progression that is followed in Church service. The teacher of the 5 year old Sunday School class could be the next bishop or conversely, the bishop could be the next music leader. Our assignments are extended after prayerful deliberation. With that understanding, I am confident the roles I am given are where God wants me at a given time. I do my best and ask for the Lord to make up for my weaknesses and shortcomings.
