Hi I'm Jeff

I can't imagine life without Excel spreadsheets or jazz. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The left and the right side of my brain are in constant competition for my attention. I grew up playing saxophone and improvising to jazz, and I can still play a nice blues solo. But, to even my own surprise, I discovered accounting in college and eventually earned a masters degree and CPA certification. I create financial statements for a Fortune 500 company and I love all things Excel. Above all else, I'm in the top 99.9% of happiest husbands. I love my wife and three little kids!!

Why I am a Mormon

The church has been a part of my life since I was born, since my parents are both members, and did what a good mom and dad should do: they took me church so I could learn about faith and develop an understanding of the gospel. However, like every single kid that grows up in a Mormon home finds out, what you do with what you know is entirely up to you. With unlimited options, I had to decide what I believe, and if I wanted to BE a Mormon. For me, the answer was yes, and here are a few reasons why: -- I know that I have a Heavenly Father, and that Jesus Christ is my Savior; -- I know that there's a reason God sent me to earth, and that God has more in store for all of us than just this brief existence on earth; -- I pray and feel God's influence and direction in my life; -- families are forever, and nobody has a greater or more hopeful message about this than the Mormon church; -- the more I learn, the more it makes sense - not all things in life are like that. The Book of Mormon and the message of the restored gospel will supplement what you know from the Bible, or whatever other source of truth you've found, to give you a complete and coherent understanding of who you are and what your purpose is on earth. Who doesn't want to know the answers to that?

How I live my faith

CHURCH SERVICE: I attend church on a regular basis (every Sunday). The Mormon church helps its members grow in their faith by calling on each member to serve in some capacity. Some of my prior church service has included passing the bread and water (during sacrament meeting), helping plan activities (Mormons know how to have fun!), teaching sunday school, and others. Currently, I help the bishop organize his meetings and calendar, so he can focus on more important aspects of his service. The most exciting thing I've done in the church was serving a two-year mission to Russia (Yekaterinburg mission). That was life changing and is something any young man or woman who prepares themselves can do. PERSONAL LIFE: I try to do what Jesus would do. That doesn't always happen, but I'm better when I try. I include prayer in my day, and read the scriptures and other materials that teaches me about the spiritual aspects of life. I don't swear, and I do my best to be a friend and include others - especially people that I can tell are in need of a lift. I do my best to make my actions consistent with my beliefs. HOME LIFE: My wife and I have fun teaching our children about good values. We regularly have mini-lessons, games and activities, and singing to add building blocks to their character. We open up the scriptures and read a little bit each night and pray as a family and give hugs and loves to everyone before going to bed. My wife and kids know that we can be a forever family, and they know that I want that.
