Hi I'm Jeff

I'm a landscape architect and city planning consultant. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When I was in high school I read the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, loved the idea of creating places, which set me on my career course. I have been fortunate to be involved in planning cities, neighborhoods and regions in many US locations as well as Europe and Africa. I enjoy what I do and still look forward to going to work each day. I have been married to the same, wonderful wife, for almost 40 years, and we have 4 remarkable children and 2 brilliant grandchildren (of course, so far). I love fly fishing, enjoy biking and racquetball, and jogging.

Why I am a Mormon

I was fortunate to be raised in a Mormon family. (My father was from Kentucky, a convert to the Church after he met and married my mother, who comes from a long Mormon heritage.) I suppose I have always had an abiding faith in what I learned at home and at church. After 2 years of college I decided to go on an LDS mission. Early in that 2 1/2 year experience, I decided that I needed to have more than a passive faith, I needed to know for myself if what I was preaching was true, particularly whether Joseph Smith really was a prophet. I prayed sincerely, and received a personal witness the Joseph Smith had communicated with the Father and the Son, and restored their Church to the earth. The knowledge provided through that restoration, that we came from somewhere before, that we are each on the earth for a purpose, and that life continues after this life, permeates everything I do every day. I have experienced periods where my life did not reflect my knowledge and faith, but I have felt the warmth of Father's forgiveness. I have a fervent belief in the power of prayer, prayers do get answered.

How I live my faith

For the last 4 years my wife and I have been assigned (called) to serve in a ward made up of young single adults. My wife and I love interacting with the remarkable youth of the Church. I am the 1st Counsellor to the Bishop. In that role I assign members of the congregation to give talks each Sunday (there is no paid ministry at the local level). I also extend calls to serve in various responsibilities in ward. On Sundays we attend Church services for 3 hours, plus go to leadership meetings for 2 1/2 hours beforehand. We often attend Church-related activities on Monday night, and Friday night. Every active member also serves as a Home Teacher. In that capacity we visit 3 families at least once a month to leave a spiritual message and see if we can render service.
