Hi I'm Joel

I'm an anesthesiologist, a fisherman and a typical golfer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father. I am a husband. I love to golf, but need some work on my swing. I am a flyfisherman. I am a backpacker. I am a gardener. I am a rocketeer. I enjoy playing board games with my family and playing hide and seek with my kids.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of Mormons, being named for my great-great-great grandfather, who was a Mormon pioneer. My parents taught me the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ during my youth. I have always felt the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet. For these reasons and others, I chose to serve a mission to El Salvador for two years during my college years. My mission experience strengthened my feelings about the gospel, Jesus Christ's atonement and the restoration of the gospel through Joseph Smith. My faith in Jesus Christ continues to grow as I traverse the challenges of life and as I try to teach my children to be kind and righteous.

How I live my faith

As a physician I have many opportunities to treat people as Christ would treat them, "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick." (Matthew 9:12). I try to emulate Christ's attributes with my patients and others that I come into contact with on a daily basis. In my local congregation I serve as the president of the Sunday School, overseeing all of the classes and instruction that happens on a weekly basis.
