Hi I'm Shirley

I grew up between Puerto Rico & the United States. I'm the oldest of four children ranging in age from 28 to 8 mos. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am 28 years old. I am the only member of the church in my family. I love to watch movies, especially musicals. One of my absolute favorite things to do is dance, mostly to Latin Music. I love to read books about people who've done things to change their personal world. Children fascinate me, their purity, their intelligence is incredible to me. Through my work, I'm able to learn from them daily.

Why I am a Mormon

I made the decision to become a Mormon about eight years ago. At that time, I was in college and wasn't making the best decisions. One day, I reflected on my life and realized that I was very unhappy. I felt alone and lost and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. That day I prayed, for the first time in years, and I asked God for help because I felt like I'd lost all control of my life. That day, two missionaries knocked on my door. They began teaching me the Gospel and helped me change my life. Suddenly my life had a purpose and I no longer felt alone. Most importantly, I learned that I am a daughter of God. Since then, I've had the great blessing and opportunity to serve a mission. While on my mission, I had the opportunity to see the Gospel change others' lives the way that it changed mine. I had the opportunity to experience true love, the way the Savior taught. I know that God loves me. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know that this Gospel is true, it can change lives. It changed mine.

How I live my faith

Currently, I'm a visiting teacher and I'm the first counselor in the Relief Society (the church's organization for women) in my ward. I try to attend the temple on a regular basis, I attend my church meetings and try to fulfill the responsibilities of my calling. I try to be active in church activities in the area .

What is being a Mormon like?

Shirley
My life since I converted to the church has undergone a few changes but all of them have had a positive influence on my life. Prior to converting, I didn't attend any church, I didn't pray or read scriptures and I wasn't very concerned with having a relationship with God. In the last eight years, I have come to know that God is my Father in Heaven and he loves me. That knowledge has changed my life. I am actively involved in my congregation. Through my association with members of the church I have made some of the best friends I've ever had. I have experienced miracles in my life and seen others experience them as well as the Gospel changed their lives. I seek to have a relationship with God and learn what his will is. I am much more aware of others and the relationship that we have as children of God. It has given me an increased love for my family, a greater acceptance of myself and a stronger desire to care for others. Show more Show less
