Hi I'm Derek

I'm a Spanish speaking missionary. I like Music, spending time with family and playing sports. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am serving a full time mission in the Washington Tri-cities area. I am working among the Spanish speaking people. I love Hispanic food, people, and traditions. I love my big family. I'm the youngest of 6 and have always loved Family time. Nothing is better than the times when my family is all together. I am recreational, I like doing things that are fun. I like poetry and music. I love all types but lean towards rock. I write music when I have spare time. I like singing at the top of my lungs. I wish I could play the piano like Ben Folds. I want to make a difference in the world. I want to help people on a large scale. I am sophisticated. I love life. I'm also the tallest guy you know.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but I wouldn't still be a member today if I didn't know of a surety that it is the one true church. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and I know that the lord still calls prophets today. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet today and that he was called of God. I know that Jesus Christ died so that we can return to live with him and our Heavenly Father. Some think it a weakness to be born into the church, because I didn't search it out and find out it was true on my own. But, I've got the testimonies of my ancestors up to Edward Partridge. My 4th Great Grandpa, who was baptized by Joseph Smith himself, and served as the first Bishop of the Church in this dispensation. On top of that I had to receive my own knowledge of the truthfulness of the Church. Its a widely recognized truth that a man cannot live on borrowed light, and so it got to the point where I had to find my own answer, and I did. I'll always be greatful for the guidance, blessings, and peace of mind that come from being an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

In this church, we believe in Grace. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ we are all saved from Death. He has also paid the price of our sins. The only thing he asks in return is that we follow him. Through Faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end, he can transfrom us from what we are into what we need to be. We work because we love the savior, and want to show our gratitude for his sacrifice. We also believe that the only way we can become better people is by our Christlike service. We believe in living a lifetime of service. Every Sunday morning back home, it was my responsibility to go to the local health care center and help with the church meeting we held there. The people there suffer from various physical and mental illnesses, but they are so happy. There is always a glimmer in their eyes and a smile on their faces. I couldn't leave there without a smile on my face. I loved to serve those sweet spirits, it helped me get through my week, and learn and grow over time! On my mission I go about preaching the gospel to all who will receive us. We want to help them receive the same blessings that we enjoy. This is all without monetary pay, but we get overpaid with blessings from above, every day we are in the service of our Lord.
