Hi I'm Thory

I grew up in Florida. I was an elementary school teacher for 25 years and raised five children. I am married and enjoy traveling.

About Me

Hi! I am a mother of five and an Elementary school teacher for twenty five years. I am retired but not tired of teaching , so I substitute in classes as a guest teacher because of I love being around children. They keep me young at heart and inspire me to be a better person. It says in Mark10:13-16 "Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter heaven." I want to return someday to Heavenly Father and my church membership helps me to become more Christ-like.I love life and the beauty around me. I enjoy camping and fishing in the Colorado mountains. I photograph those scenes and capture the moments in oils or other artistic mediums. I love the mountain wildflowers and bring some home to my garden.Mountain biking is popular in the mountains, but I have graduated to a comfort bike! As I become a senior in my surroundings, I watch my children and members of the church valiantly raise their children in righteousness which gives me hope for the future and and strengthens my faith.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was twenty years old and just married. We traveled to California for a summer internship. The Mormon missionaries called me on the phone and asked,"What do you know about the Mormons and would you like to know more?" I was always interested in religion.. At Gainesville, Fla. the churches were across the street from the University of Fla. and I went with my friends to many different churches. I was searching for spiritual growth and accepted the missionaries request to visit and teach me. I was extremely interested in the origin of the Book of Mormon in the Americas.I went to firesides at the Stanford church for students and begin to develop a testimony of the truthfulness of the LDS church. I fasted and prayed and was baptized before going back to Fla. When I received the Holy ghost by the laying on of hands,I felt and incredible warmth course thru my body. I wasn't sure why this occured, but I was at peace and gratefull to be a member. I have been a member for 45 years, but I still remember the feeling that came over me when I was baptized. I have felt the Holy Ghost many times testifying the truthfullness of the gospel. As I read Joseph Smith"s terstimony at the Sacred grove, the same strong peacefull feeling fills my soul and strenghtens my testimony.

How I live my faith

Since my baptism, I have continued to grow in Faith.Other members of the church have taught me how to be more Christ-like through their examples. I rarely miss a Sunday, for I can be spiritually fed by studying the scripture with members or listening to members give a talk in Sacrament meeting or teaching the children in their Sunday School called Primary. I have taught in the primary for a total of thirty five years and loved it. I have also worked with the youth or teenage girls, even hiking on the Appalachian Trail for a week. I love to organize events for women learning to be better homemakers and mothers and contributors of our society. I have taught a parenting class for my Charter school parents and within my church.I was fortunate to stay at home when my five children were small. I went back to teaching as a career when they were all in school. Those first few years of their life are so important and informative and I could provide a secure environment for then to grow and develop.
