Hi I'm Emily Granger

I am a student, waitress, sister, daughter, athlete, and model. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm Emily. I am currently a college student studying to be a costume designer. I work as a waitress during the week and pay for all of my own schooling without any loans. Sometimes I babysit during the week for additional income. I love to dance and sing. Modeling is something I do for fun every once in a while. I am constantly overwhelming myself with activities but that is what keeps me happy, healthy, and living the dream.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to become a member after witnessing the true display of Heavenly Father's love for me and plan for my life. I have always had a strong desire to have a family that would stay together forever and I learned how that was possible through this church. Not only does knowing that my family can be together forever help me, but also I know that the gospel has been restored to strengthen families like mine.I did not have the luxury of growing up in a member home. My parents were divorced when I was thirteen, but I had become a substitute parent many years before that. I became an inactive Christian and made a few bad choices but still maintained a fairly healthy lifestyle. In February 2011, I began working for Walt Disney World in the third-busiest quick food service restaurant in the U.S. called Pecos Bill Cafe in the Disney College Program. There is where I met my best friend Moryah who was a member of the LDS Church. She showed me a kind of love and compassion that I had never had before in my life. Despite our very different backgrounds, she empathized with me and helped me through my internal struggles that had built up in years past. Without her, I would not know the joy I feel today. Now I feel the love everywhere I go. I live with some people from the church of which I comically call my Mormon foster parents because I am the only member of my family. The church has many activities focused around family that I attend regularly. For example, Monday nights are called Family Home Evening. Many families use this night to spend time with one another and have a regular day of the week for fun and games accompanied by scripture study. I joined this church because it has shown me how to live in eternal happiness that could not be threatened or broken. I now understand my worth to the world and how important it is to live righteously. My new-found freedom in love has opened my eyes to a world of joy and happiness and I am proud to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As a full time college student, I understand what it means to be busy, but I still try to find time to be involved with my Young Single Adult branch of the church. I strive to keep the Sabbath day holy and attend church every Sunday. My branch doesn't start till 11am which allows me to sleep in a little. The regular activities of church for me include Sacrament Meeting, Sunday school, and Relief Society. Sacrament Meeting involves renewing our covenants with Heavenly Father and listening to speakers from the congregation about a topic designated for that day. Something different about this meeting that most churches don't have is the opportunity for everyone to give a lesson. Even I have had the opportunity to speak in front of church like a pastor or minister. Sunday school follows this meeting where we discuss lessons in a smaller classroom setting. Relief Society is probably my favorite church hour. It is the time when the women separate from the men to have our own lesson and discuss how we are feeling and what is affecting us. It is not meant for there to be purposeful segregation but more of a bonding time for the women of the church. These Sunday activities are typical of any ward or branch within the church, but my branch has even more fun stuff during the week. On Tuesdays we attend institute which is a discussion style classroom that discusses sections of the scriptures. Thursday is Ladies Night where we do crafts, exercise, or find charitable things to do. The first Friday of every month is dance night where all the young single adults from a region meet to get to know each other and hopefully find dates (I have had some personal success at these events). Sometimes someone from church will host a movie night but many times, the week is unpredictable. School and work don’t always allow every to attend events but it is great to know that you always have a church thing you could be doing. I love being involved and feeling active in the church.
