Hi I'm Shawna

I'm a wife, and mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy being a full-time wife and mom. I love volunteering at my local elementary school and hope to someday be an elementary school teacher. I have a great love for the outdoors. Some of my happiest family memories are from our outdoor hiking, camping, boating and skiing adventures. I am so grateful to live in an area where we can experience the four seasons and I have developed a deep appreciation for Heavenly Father's creations. My family also LOVES baseball and we also have a strong passion for college basketball. We love rooting for our favorite teams and filling out our brackets for the NCAA college basketball tournament each year. My family has had some fun and exciting "backyard" baseball games, that can get competitive, but can also be wildly hilarious! Reading is another favorite interest of mine. I enjoy all genres, but am particularly fond of reading about the founding fathers and mothers of the United States.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 15 years old. I had the privilege of having some very strong LDS youth as my friends. I felt different when I was around them and I felt happy. I later realized it was the influence of making good choices and having the influence and gift of the Holy Ghost that gave them that special light about their countenance and I decided I wanted it too. I began meeting with the sister missionaries and they taught me important gopsel principles. I began to read the Book of Mormon and prayed for confirmation that what I was learning and reading was true. I also began attending church. One Sunday while in a Sunday school class, we were discussing the Book of Mormon and the Holy Ghost whispered to me that it was true. I felt a warm, tingling feeling in my body and I felt overwhelmingly happy. I made the choice to be baptized and have never looked back. I have continued to learn and grow in the gopsel of Jesus Christ and have been sealed to my family for eternity, which gives me great joy. I have a deep love for my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and I know that they know me and love me too. I love the Book of Mormon! I learn something new each time I read it. I know that Joseph Smith was the instrument in which Heavenly Father used to restore the Church to the earth. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet on the earth today. I am grateful that I can talk to my Heavenly Father daily and that he can talk to me through the Holy Ghost. I am grateful for My Savior, Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the Atonement that he performed on my behalf. I am never alone because He knows exctly how I feel when I am hurt. I am grateful for those special friends that shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with me. I am grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!

How I live my faith

I love that everyone has an opportunity to serve in my church. Serving others helps me feel happy and gives me an opportunity to develop my talents and skills. I have had some wonderful experiences working and serving with the youth and the women in my church. Currently I have been organizing and planning a five day camp experience for young women twelve to eighteen years old. It is an opportunity for the young women to enjoy the outdoors, and learn survival and self-reliance skills. We also get to play games, enjoy waterfront activities, make crafts, sing and hang out. We also get the opportunity to learn gospel principles and share our thoughts and feelings about the things we have learned. I also have the honor of working with the full-time missionaries. I get to help teach people who are interested about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and people who have been recently baptized. I love answering questions and sharing my thoughts and feelings about principles that bring me happiness. I love to hear from those that I teach how the Gospel of Jesus Christ has brought light and happiness to their lives! I love to serve others, and my favorite people to serve are my family! I enjoy helping them learn new things and encouraging them in achieving their goals. I am happy to give a listening ear and to be a shoulder they can lean on and they do the same for me.
