Hi I'm Melanie

I am an oboist, a stay-up-all-night-&-read-books girl, a dancer (well, used to be), a wife, a mom of 3 little ones, & I'm a Mormon

About Me

I spend my days raising my 3 beautiful children, attempting to clean the house/cook, and teaching oboe lessons from my home. I have a Masters degree in Music Performance, play in a symphony, and lead the church choir. I love to be involved in whatever is going on at my kid's school, church activities, or seasonal events. I love holidays:) All of them. Favorite TV Show: So You Think You Can Dance. (I have danced since I was little--grew up a clogger, took classes in ballet, Irish dancing, Latin ballroom, modern dance, and was on a folk dance team that learned international dances from around the world). If you can't tell, I kind of miss it! I am thankful for my life and the amazing things the Lord has placed in it. I have a wonderful husband who takes care of our family and loves us. My kids make me happy and give me fulfillment. I am close to my family and love being with them.

Why I am a Mormon

This is a question that I cannot answer lightly. Being a Mormon encompasses all that I am and all that I do in my life. I know that this is the true church of Jesus Christ upon the earth. I have prayed for that witness and received it. I was born into a Mormon family and have been a faithful member my whole life. But, I live it because I have sought out truth myself and found it. I have felt the power of the Holy Ghost in answer to my prayers. My two strongest experiences were praying on my knees in my closet as a teenager to know if the Book of Mormon was true, and feeling an overpowering sense of God's love for me at a lonely time. Many times, I have felt warmth and peace fill my mind and body as I seek the spirit. My favorite scripture is from Doctrine & Covenants 45:3-5 3. Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him— 4 Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified; 5 Wherefore, Father, spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life. This is hope enough for me to know that my Savior Jesus Christ loves me enough to plead my cause (to be with God again someday), by placing His atonement before God in my stead. All He asks: Believe in His name and come unto Him. I am Mormon because I believe that all the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ are contained here and that through them, I may receive the ordinances and guidance I need to follow my Savior with my family, back to the presence of God.

How I live my faith

Most important to me in sustaining my faith is attending church every Sunday. There I partake of the sacrament and renew my commitment to the Lord. I love the feeling of a new week ahead of me--a fresh start to do better than before. Sunday worship makes this possible. Also, my love of music has granted me many new opportunities. With no "choral training", I now find myself leading our stake choir (this is a choir composed of members from 5 LDS wards and 3 branches). Though daunting at first, I have discovered talents I never knew I had. What joy this calling has brought to my life. I am able to serve the Lord by seeking to invite the spirit to our meetings through music. I love it!
