Hi I'm Sam

I was born in England. I am serving in America. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm Sam! I have lived in England all my life until I left to serve a mission for the church in the Utah Salt Lake City South mission in August 2011. Before this I went to college and studied Geography, Geology, and Chemistry. Then I worked for a year in the Head Office of a Bank to get the money for my mission. My family consists of my Mum, Dad and 5 brothers - yes...6 boys! I'm the 2nd oldest. Back home I also have a 2 year old Lab named Bella. Utah is a little too hot and dry for me! I'm used to the rain pretty much every day. Between leaving work and setting off for my mission I would spend around 90% of my time with friends in the nearest city. I love to be around other people; but every now and then I like to get away from people, too. I love to walk in the Yorkshire countryside. When I 'grow up' I would love to do something that means I can be outside a lot. I didn't like being stuck behind a desk much...

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but that doesn't mean I'm not a convert. I really believe that, whether your parents are members or not, you need to find out for yourself about the truth of each aspect of the church. I decided to find out for myself as I was tired of 'borrowing' someone elses testimony of it all. I don't like to just accept someones word for anything; so I decided to study and ask the Lord. Step by step I found out the truth of Heavenly Father. I came to know, through experience, that He loves me and knows what's best for me. Sometimes I think I know what I need; but then I find out that really I was just thinking about what I wanted. Through prayer I found out that God speaks to us. I have been in real circumstances in which He has guided me out safely by giving me the promptings of what I should do. One instance could've meant being stranded alone in a busy city; but He helped me out. And I'm so grateful for it. I read the Book of Mormon. After praying and asking if it was truly scripture from God, I got a witness from Him that it was. I know Joseph Smith was God's prophet. He was God's instrument to set up the true Church in its fullness. I know that through Joseph, the Book of Mormon was translated from plates of gold. I know all of this because I experimented with it and asked God - if anyone knows the truth it's Him, right? Most importantly, I know that anyone can know these same things. They just have to give it a shot! The only real way to find out about the truth is to live it. Experiment with it.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a full-time missionary for the church. It is my job to invite people to come unto Christ and to help them receive His gospel. I love doing this. I get to meet so many different people every day. Even better, I get to see the changes people will make in their life when they find out for themself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true and restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I have felt the power of Jesus Christ and His atonement. I travelled thousands of miles from home to help other people who aren't as fortunate as me receive the same blessings.
