Hi I'm Jason

I live in Las Vegas. I love life. I am serving a two year mission in the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Mission.

About Me

I love living in the west, it is simply home. I love being able to go outside and see the landscapes. One of my favorite places in the world is my grandparents cabin in Utah. I enjoy the mountains. I enjoy flying planes, I would like to fly as a career or a hobby. I love to listen to people. I love to listen to music. I love technology. I love to serve others.

Why I am a Mormon

Religion has always been a part of my live. I was born into the lds church and im forever grateful for the leasons and truths i've learned. This church brings me joy as I continue to find true friends in it. There is just something about the people in this church that is hard to describe. It feels like another family. I know the book of mormon was written for us today as I've read it and received peace. This is most definitally where i'm supposed to be.

How I live my faith

The way I try to give back is by serving others. I've gone as a backup leader in boyscouts. I lock up my local church building every night. I try to be a friend to those who seek one. I know my standards and I chose to do my best to uphold them.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Jason
A typical sunday at the mormon church consists of 3 meeting. Our, first meeting, family worship service (a.k.a. sacrament meeting.) is where we sing hymns (religious songs sung by the congregation), have prayer (Offered by local church members). partake of the sacrament (a.k.a. communion) which is bread and water that has been blessed by priesthood holders for the benefit of all those who desire to partake of it. Church members who have been assigned talks also speak during sacrament meeting. The last two hours consist of many different classes that teach things from the Bible and Book of Mormon. (Sunday School, Primary, Nursery, young Women, Relief Society, Priesthood) They vary depending on age and gender. Sunday School is offered to everyone ages 12+ during the second hour. Primary is for children ages 3 through 12. Young Women is for ages 12 through 17. Relief Society is for women 18 and older. Priesthood is is men 12 and older. All are welcome to join us at anytime! Who was Joseph Smith?

Jason
Joseph was a prophet. Prophets are men who are chosen by god. Prophets are special witnesses of Jesus Christ. They receive revelation for the benefit of the people of the world. They also interpret the word of god. Moses was a prophet of old and he was given the ten commandments from God. Noah was a prophet of old and he was commanded to build an ark. Joseph was a prophet of more recent times and he was told where to find and how to translate the book of mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Jason
Absolutely. In the past prophets were a must. Without them the people fell into confusion about the teachings of the lord. The prophet is equevelent to a teacher in a classroom, and we are the students. Without the teacher we are left on our own to translate the textbook (scriptures.) Which leads to numerous different answers for the same questions. But today we do have a prophet with authority and are taught by him often. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Jason
Authority is vital because without it nothing is official. We need authority here on earth to do things. For example, we need a degree to be a doctor. Authority to baptize is authority from heaven. Jesus was baptized by John the baptist, John held the authority to baptize. Jesus was are greatest example and we have been commanded to do the same. The priesthood authority was restored through Joseph Smith and has continued since that time throughout the church of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Jason
Faith is a belief in things we can not see, which are true. An example would be the wind. You can't see it, but you can feel it and you know without a doubt its there and true. It is no different with the gospel. The scriptures are filled with knowledge in which we must search for ourselves to find out in they are true. They ask us to do things and put things to the test, testing our faith in their promises of an outcome. In the Book of Mormon it says that we invite all men to read and ponder upon the things which are written therein and if we will pray, having a sincere desire of heart, asking God if the things within are true or false. With assurity I know that if you will exercise but an ounce of faith and put this challenge to the test that you will receive an answer and know for yourself that things are true. Are Mormons Christians?

Jason
Mormons are Christians. We view Jesus Christ as our Leader, Savior, and the most important person to have ever lived. Our Religion is based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ. We pray and worship in his name. I view the atonement as the single greatest act of love in history. He asked his father three times to take this cup from him, but nevertheless, not his will, but the fathers will be done. He loved us enough to pay the ultimate price so that we may all live with are father in heaven once again. I am eternally greatful. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Jason
Our Heavenly Father is all knowing. He cares for us all more then we can comprehend and desires to give us knowledge as we prepare for it. If we sincerely seek this knowledge from him, we should ask. James 1:5-6 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and Upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like the wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." We pray to our Father in Heaven and ask him for guidance. We continue to study and thoughtfully consider it ourselves. We listen for the joyous feelings of inspiration we receive from the holy spirit. We also follow the commandments so we can feel the spirit. If we do this things we will receive an answer. Show more Show less

What is the Relief Society?

Jason
The Relief Society is a women's organization within the church. It was established in 1842 for women who are of 18 years of age and older. It's purpose is to bring women closer to god by building their faith, increase their desire for personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes by building them upon a foundation of Christ, and to help all those who are need (hence: Relief Society). What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Jason
God is perfect in all comparison to us. He is wise, powerful, merciful, loving, fair, and ruler of all things. He is our Heavenly Father. We are created in his image. His body looks just like ours except his is immortal and perfect beyond description. He knows us and loves us all as individuals. He loves us so much that he has set forth a plan so that we, as his children, can be happy and someday live with him again. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Jason
For me, the main things that tells me that there is a god would have to be his creations and my life. I look at my world around me. I view the sky's by day and night. I see the storms and wondrous lights. I see the people, I see the children and the way their parents love them. I see the forests and the plants round about. I look back on my life and wonder how it is things have fit into place. I can see where my path was curved for the better. I can see how I've been blessed. It is through this irrevocable testimony to me that my soul sings that there is a creator, there is a God, and he is my Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

Jason
The church has stated that there is no restriction on race or color that would prevent one from joining The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or receiving the priesthood. The church has officially declared, "...every faithful, worthy man in the Church may receive the holy priesthood, with power to exercise its divine authority, and enjoy with his loved ones every blessing that flows therefrom, including the blessings of the temple. Accordingly, all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color." (Doctrine and Covenants, Official Declaration – 2, 294). Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Jason
Simply put, as far as grace is concerned. We believe that we are to give all we can give and when we reach that point grace starts to fill in the rest. So say I give 110% of all I can give through my faith and works in my efforts to be someone worthy to hold the title "Follower of Jesus Christ" On God's scale my 110% may only look like 80% or 60%. Through the grace of Christ and his atonement he gives the rest. Through Jesus Christ's grace that 80% or 60% turns into the 100% that god requires of me. but I can only receive it after I have given my all. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Jason
No one is required to serve a mission. Mission's are voluntary and no pay is given. We go where the church asks us to go, and we go all over the world. Generally missionaries are young people between the ages 19 and 21. Retired seniors, men, women, and married couples may also serve. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Jason
The family is the most important unit in the church. Our families provide us with the best environment for learning that we could ask for. We share everything with each other from our greatest joys to our greatest sorrows. We become close and gain true friends in our families. They prepare us to return to live with god. How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Jason
The way we increase our faith in Jesus Christ is by following his teachings. We take something he has asked us to do, prayer and scripture study for example, and we look at what he has promised us, answers. So he has said that as we pray and read the scriptures we will find answers to the questions we have. Even though we may not understand how we get an answer, we exercise faith by taking on his challenge that we will receive an answer. As we do this more and more often we will gain a knowledge that his promises are true. As we have this knowledge we will be more compelled to act as we know what comes of our efforts. So over all, we start with a desire to know if what he promised us is true. As we act upon it we come to learn of how true it really is. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Jason
We can come to know our father in heaven through a process. First we must desire to know him. As we look at the creations around us from the trees, the stars, the earth, the animals, and the children, we come to recognize there is more here than what the eye can see. We come to a thought that there might be a deity. We desire to know where to look. We hold the thought in out hearts that there must be someone behind this. We pray and try to communicate with our Father in heaven. We ask him the question as old as time. Are you real? Somewhere in us, as we earnestly seek, we feel that there seems to be a feeling, small, but true, that he is there. We start to seek out literature and talks of those who are special witnesses of our Father, the prophets and apostles. We read the Holy Scriptures and all their accounts of our Father in Heaven and his glory. We find that he has asked us to do things. (His commandments) He promises that as we do the things we have asked we will receive an assurance that what we are doing is good and that he is truly there. We must act on these scripture challenges; I can promise that if you will but act sincerely, you will find your answers. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Jason
Donating ten percent of our income, the law of tithing, is a commandant of god. It is nothing new. Tithing is used to forward the works of the church. In Malachi the lord has said set for a challenge concerning tithing, almost like a dare. He says, "Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" Our god has challenged us to prove him wrong. Anyone who has lived this commandment can testify of its power. Show more Show less

The church has stated in its proclamation to the world that, "Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations." Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Jason
We have always had a bible. But why would people who sought to take away the life of Christ maintain such a sacred record and keep it in its purest state. These people sought and killed the prophets and apostles left alive at the time as well. Amos 3:7 "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." Without any prophets or apostles on the earth, God's secrets and mysteries can not be revealed upon the earth until a new prophet is called of God. Before the apostles where killed the people of the church abroad were already getting confused and needed guidance from the apostles. We see this in the many epistles near the end of the new testament. Without the apostles and prophets the doctrines became corrupt over time as many things have been changed. We see proof of this today with baptism as an example. How many different ways are people baptized in different churches? After this mass confusion a Restoration was needed to bring back plain and precious lost truths. We have proof today that this restoration has taken place. We have evidence you can hold in your hands, read, ponder its message in your hearts, and pray about to learn of its authenticity. The Book of Mormon stands as a testimony that Jesus Christ lives. The Book of Mormon Exalts the Bible and helps to clarify truths. As you read one you find yourself drawn to the other. We invite all men to read and pray about this message. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Yes. The resurrected Jesus Christ did indeed visit the people of ancient North America after he visited his disciples of the New Testament. To find the answer to this question for yourself you should read the Book of Mormon. D'well upon the message it contains and think about its authenticity yourself. You should then get on your knees and pray to your Heavenly Father with a specific question about whether or not the stories of the ancient prophets of the america's are true. I can promise, through experience, that if you will give this process a chance that you will find a personal testimony for yourself that it is true. Show more Show less

The influence of someone trying to live these standards can be huge in a group where those around them are not living those moral standards. They stand out like a sore thumb. In whom should we have faith?

Jason
Faith is powerful when it is understood. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Heb. 11:1) Faith without works is dead. (James 2:17) Now, the thing in which we should place our trust in is Jesus Christ. Christ gave himself as a ransom for our sins and when we place our confidence and trust in Him we can feel assured that he will take of us. We must believe in Him. We also must do what he says. He stretches out His arms to us waiting for us to grab hold so that we may be pulled out of the pit of sin. He say, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:29-30) I know that Christ is the only means that we can gain salvation. I know that it is through Him that we can gain peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come. I know that he is not far and if anyone desires to seek Him they can find Him. I promise He will heal your soul as He has mine. Show more Show less
