Hi I'm Mike

I'm a geek, I'm a dad and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married to a beautiful and fabulous woman and we have three energetic young children. My family is the greatest joy (and the greatest challenge) in my life. I have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and I'm a full-time chemistry instructor at a local community college. My hobbies include board games, juggling, reading, doing lame magic tricks and eating bacon.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a scientist, I'm always looking for a rational explanation for things. I want things to make sense. I want to be able to test things out for myself. That's why I'm a Mormon. I've read, studied, contemplated and experimented upon the truths of the gospel. That's one of the great things about the gospel of Jesus Christ. He doesn't ask us to follow blindly, but He invites us to follow in faith. By testing out the truths I've found in the Bible and the Book of Mormon I have found that they truly work. They make me happier and they make my life better. But most importantly, as I've tried to live the gospel I've felt the sweet peace and joy that the Holy Spirit brings. It is that undeniable testimony that keeps me going when life is difficult.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite things about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is that it gives me the chance to serve. For several years I was asked to teach the youth. It was tough, but I really grew to love it. I love seeing the enthusiasm and the faith of the young people in our congregation. Right now I've been asked to help coordinate the efforts between the full-time missionaries in our area and the members of our congregation. It has been a great opportunity to share my testimony of the gospel and how it has blessed me in my life.
