Hi I'm Liz

I'm a mother of seven. I teach English to students just arrived from other countries. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! I'm Liz. My great delight is in working with children, so it was a natural fit when, at age 37, I married a wonderful widower, and became an instant mom of six! We have since added a child of our own. Now that child is preparing to leave for college and soon we will be grandparents of eighteen! Family means so much! I cherish the time spent with loved ones. In addition, I work part time in the ESL department of a local junior high. I love the opportunity of mingling with young people from all around the world. We are a musical family. Everyone plays an instrument and we love to sing. I enjoy writing ,playing piano and creative projects. I also enjoy spectator sports, road trips, and classic movies & television.

Why I am a Mormon

I think so much of it has to do with the perspective it gives me. The gospel gives me a clear understanding of my relationship to my Heavenly Father and to Jesus Christ, and the role of the Holy Ghost in my life. I think it gives me a greater feeling of self-worth and vision of the kind of person I can become. It gives me a greater understanding of God's plan for us. It gives me hope of being with my family eternally and enjoying the same sociality we enjoy here. The gospel gives a sense of purpose as to the role each member has in helping to build God's kingdom here on earth. I love to read the holy scriptures-both the Bible and Book of Mormon. I know they are the words of God and can give us direction in this life. I am grateful for the understanding that there is a living prophet on the earth who is a spokesman for God in this day, just as in times past. I can remember the peace I felt on the evening of September 11, 2001, when the prophet spoke words of reassurance and hope. I am grateful that the priesthood of God has been restored to the earth as it was in Christ's day. I have felt the blessings of the priesthood many times in my life. My parents were seekers of truth. I was a child when missionaries came to our home. I saw how their lives changed for the better, when they came to an understanding of these things. I have observed from their lives and the lives of many others, that trying to live close to the gospel of Jesus Christ is the best chance for happiness in this life and in eternity.

How I live my faith

Currently, I have the opportunity to lead the children's group at our church. We teach the children that each one is a child of God, and that each is personally known and and loved by Him. We teach them about Jesus Christ-His life and teachings, and His sacrifice for us. We teach them about God's commandments from the Bible , the Book of Mormon (another testament of Jesus Christ) and revelations to ancient and modern day prophets through stories, music and activities. I love seeing the smiling faces of the children each week. They are so full of life and energy. It's very rewarding and revitalizing work.

Are Mormons Christians?

Liz
Yes. The full name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mormon is a nickname. We worship Jesus Christ as our Savior. We believe He is the head of the church. We take a sacrament each week in our worship service in remembrance of Him and to renew the covenants we made at baptism to follow Him. We learn more about Him and study His teachings in our church services, as well as in our homes. Our church buildings contain many beautiful paintings depicting His life. As a church and individually, we try to follow His example. Show more Show less
