Hi I'm Katy Pike

I'm a missionary, a speech-language pathologist, a favorite aunt to 10 nieces and nephews, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a Masters degree in Speech-language Pathology from Utah State University. I love my job because it gives me the opportunity to use my talents and skills for good. Nothing is better than being able to help someone be able to communicate! I love to travel, my absolute favorite trip was to Ecuador where I had the opportunity to work with special needs orphans finding ways to help them communicate more effectively. My love of trying anything new has caused me to develop a number of unusual hobbies including balloon animals, towel animals (like you get on a cruise ship), and country swing dancing. I am a voracious reader of historical fiction, I love movies, and I play tennis whenever I can find a partner.

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky enough to grow up in the church, but I didn't really have my own testimony until I was 13. My young women leaders challenged us to gain our own testimonies rather than relying on the testimonies of those around us. It took months of fasting, scripture study, and learning how to talk to my Heavenly Father, but at girls camp that year I had a very sweet experience with the Holy Ghost and now I know that this is the true church. Over the years I have questioned and needed to gain a testimony of various principles taught by the church, but I never again questioned the truthfulness of the gospel. My Heavenly Father loves me and he loves you and he will answer your prayers just as he always answers mine.

How I live my faith

As a college student, I moved a lot, which means I changed wards a lot too. In each of my new wards I love the opportunity to be a visiting teacher. It helps me to get to know the women in the ward and links us together so we can learn from and rely on each other. I have served in many ways in each of my wards, but my favorite calling is to be a teacher. I love the opportunity to study and prepare a topic and then present it to the group for discussion. Heavenly father always teaches me something I desperately need in my life when I prepare these lessons. Now I have the unique oppportunity to dedicate 18 months of my life to being a full time servant of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am excited for the opporutnity to share the thing that gives me peace, happiness, and purpose in my life with the people in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
