Hi I'm Richard or 'Rick'

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in the Chicago area and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. I'm a retired Federal Manager.

About Me

I enjoy education and have received Masters and Doctors degrees. Serving in the US military and retiring as a Lt. Col. (reserves) was an important part of my life. For over 33 years I worked for the Federal Government and am now enjoying retirement. If I knew how great retirement was I would have done it 25 years ago! We have 7 children and 23 grandchildren with 3 more on the way. They, along with my sweet wife, are the joys of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Christian and tried to follow the teachings of Christ. I surely wasn't looking to make any theological changes. I prayed, read the Bible and usually attended church. That seemed like enough. Then I came in contact with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My Pastor warned me they were the church of the devil! But they had answers to key questions such as the confusion of the Trinity, the nature of Heaven and Hell, and the possibility of being with my loved ones in the next life. I read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover...even the boring parts1 And I prayed to my Father in Heaven...not just some mystical substance but my literal Father of my Spirit,,,made in his image. And oh what a sweet yet powerful answer I received. This is His Church. This is the path that brings me so much closer to the Savior, even Jesus Christ. It's been many years now dotted with many trials but far, far more years of Joy. This IS the Church of Jesus Christ and is the way Christ would have us follow for happiness in mortality and great joy to come.

How I live my faith

The Church of Jesus Christ is not just a Sunday thing. To follow the Savior means to strive to keep his commandments all the time. Sure I have and continue to have challenges doing His will, but things are easier than they were. Big problems of yesterday are tiny ones now. I have served in a variety of positions fron Bishop to working with young adults 18 to 30. And my wife and I, both converts, served as missionaries in the great country of Italy!
