Hi I'm Julia Smith

I am an Air Force brat. I run half-marathons and play the violin. I love cereal and Pixar movies, and I'm a Mormon missionary.

About Me

My best friends are the two wonderful parents who raised me and my Fantastic Four siblings. We are a little out of control when we're all together because of how much fun we have watching and misquoting movies, eating, long-distance running, or vacationing by the beach. Because I grew up in the Air Force, my childhood friends were all pretty transient, but my family has stayed with me through every experience and every trial. I started playing the violin when I was 10 years old, and it is my passion! I jump at the opportunity to play in orchestras for my community or my school; classical music and showtunes come alive when I can feel the notes in my own hands. At Brigham Young University I've finished 3 years of school and plan on graduating with a Bachelor's in English, then going off to graduate school. Although the word "rhetoric" tends to give others motion sickness, I dream of becoming a speech writer. I love learning and I love having fun, so I do!

Why I am a Mormon

I was blessed to be raised in a family dedicated to following Jesus Christ. They have supported me in everything I've done, and I know that by this, the Lord enabled me to develop a strong testimony of the gospel. Faith is a hard thing to get, but studying the Bible and the Book of Mormon and praying to a loving Heavenly Father - these simple things pay off! I know that my Savior lives and loves me. He has saved my life and is the hope of my family. Because of the teachings of Christ, I am confident in myself and my future and I am happy no matter what comes my way. Waking up each day with the assurance that I'm growing into the woman He wants me to be makes my life not just endurable but enjoyable - every minute of it.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving an American Sign Language mission in Anaheim California! I spend all of my time and energy, everyday, to learning about Jesus Christ and helping others to learn about Him, too. It's a big sacrifice, and I miss a lot of things (my family, my music, running...). However, as I throw myself 100% into the work, I feel all of my selfish concerns - about finishing college, news from home, expanding my own horizons - melt away in the joy of service. It has become the best experience of my whole life - I hear the Disneyland fireworks every night, I can "charade" any and every story in the scriptures, and I am making friendships that will endure forever. I know that God has a plan for me and that while I am doing what he wants me to do here and now, I don't have to worry about what the future holds - he will prepare a way for me to accomplish everything!
