Hi I'm Eric Blanchard

I'm a husband, a father of 7 beautiful children, a music professor, a trombone player and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a wonderful family that adhered to values of Christianity. I also was trained in music from a very young age. In my house no one stopped learning to play the piano and often other instruments. I started taking piano at age 4, trombone at age 10, and organ at age 16. While I can't say I loved every minute of the practicing, I am so grateful for the religious and musical heritage my parents (and grandparents) gave me. I decided early on that I was going to pursue a degree in music and my mentor (other than my family) showed me a love for music education that made me know I wanted to be a music teacher. I got a musical bachelors in Utah, a masters in Michigan, and a doctorate in Cincinnati and now I am doing my lifelong goal of teaching music to young people. I am also married to a wonderful woman and we are the proud parents of seven children (5 girls and two boys). And, of course, I am passing on the tradition of piano and other musical instruments to my children, whether they like it or not (eventually they will).

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I grew up in a home where the gospel of Jesus Christ was lived and practiced each and every day. My parents are disciples of Christ and passed on the peace, love, and assurance that comes to those who truly believe and follow the Savior. I also know that I am a member of the true church of Christ because I have lived through times of trial and error and by the feelings that come to me because of living commandments versus the feelings that I have felt when my life wasn't going in the direction of happiness. I have felt the Spirit of God and know of these overwhelming feelings of peace and love. No matter what anybody says or does that might contradict my beliefs, I know through these feelings of the spirit that the gospel is true and that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that this is His church.

How I live my faith

I strive to live as Christ. I know that I am far from perfect and each day can be a struggle and I am pulled by opposing sides of good and evil, but by striving to keep God's commandments and loving my neighbor through service and care, I can be an instrument for Jesus Christ on the Earth. I show my faith by teaching and serving my children, by standing side by side with my wife cooking, cleaning, and doing household chores. I serve members of my church often and currently am an assistant leader in our local congregation. I enjoy working with the youth in the church and just recently returned from a very envigoring week with seventy 12-17 year-old girls at camp. I have been a scoutmaster, a missionary for two years in Brazil, and played the organ and piano for more than 20 years in congregational meetings.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Eric Blanchard
We need to make it clear that we know pornography is wrong and that it destroys family relationships. There are so many that believe there is nothing wrong, but I know first-hand the horrible effects of this addicting plague. It nearly tore my family apart and without the love and patience of a wonderful wife and a Savior who knows and understands me I would not be married today. Show more Show less
