Hi I'm Kc

I grew up in the woods in Washington. I'm a fencer. I'm a dancer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 19 years old. I'm a middle child with three siblings I was home-schooled for most of my life. I enjoy playing raquetball and fencing. I also really like strategy and card games. I went to community college for two years and then I went to a university for a year. I study psychology and want to be a child psychologist in the future. I also took both ballroom and folk dancing classes and really enjoy doing that.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that the Church is true. If it wasn't then I wouldn't be a Mormon. I was born into the Church and over time came to know that what I had learned there was the truth. I know that God is our Heavenly Father and that we can return to live with him again some day.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission for two years for the church. I go out and preach the Gospel to people and do my best to serve them. Before that, I was active in scouting and did what I could to serve my community.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Kc
Baptism is necessary to recieve salvation. We are baptized while we are alive to be able to join his church and hopefully recieve salvation one day. However, not everyone is able to be baptized as many people have died without so much as hearing about it. I don't think a just God would deny these people blessings for being born where there is no Gospel so we can perform baptisms for people who have passed away. This makes it fair for everyone. However, we don't believe that you can force anyone to recieve that baptism. So the person proxied for has that opportunity to accept that baptism or not. It's ultimately up to them. What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Kc
The law of tithing has been around since Old Testament times and is how God has chosen to support his church. Tithing has always been ten percent of our increase, or our income. Tithing is used to build and maintain temples and chapels and any other church buildings. Fund missionaries like me. Although we pay for our own room and board tithing pays for the church materials we give out and the cars we use. It also pays for materials used in church classes and seminary. It's also used for supplying education and keeping the church running. Tithing is an opportunity to recieve blessing. The Lord has promised to bless anyone who pays a full tithe. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Kc
The Book of Mormon was written by a variety of prophets. Lehi was a prophet who lived in Jerusalem in 600 B.C. He left Jerusalem and sailed to the American continent with his family. Eventually that family grew until it became a civilization. This civilization had many prophets who kept records of their lives. Mormon, one of the last prophets in this civilization, compiled the records into one book called the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith didn't write the Book of Mormon. He merely translated it with the power from God. The Book of Mormon talks about Christ's visit to the Americas after his Resurrection where he taught and set up his Church there. It is another testiment of Jesus Christ and works hand in hand with the Bible. You can learn about the truth of the Book of Mormon by reading it and praying about it. If you do, you will know by the power of the Holy Ghost that it is true. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Kc
The priesthood is the authority to act for for on Earth. Jesus Christ gave this priesthood to his apostles in the ancient church and we have had that same priesthood given to us as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Thomas S. Monson has this priesthood and uses it to lead the church. This priesthood is given to all male membersof the church who are ready to recieve it. It gives us the ability to serve all men. The priesthood is used to help others. We use the priesthood to give blessings, perform saving ordinances, and bless and administer the sacrament. We don't believe in using the priesthood to gain rank or prestige or having power over others. It must be used with love for those we lead and serve. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Kc
When we go to Sunday services we try to look out best. We want to show the Lord love and respect for Him and his house. Men usually wear suits, white button-down shirts, ties and slacks. Women usually wear skirts or dresses. This does, however, depend on the culture and means of the members. Everyone is allowed in regardless of dress however. We celebrate Easter and Christmas because they are about Jesus Christ and his life on Earth. We are also able to celebrate any other holidays we want to. Commonly we celebrate birthdays, annicersaries, and the national holidays of our country. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Kc
The priesthood is the authority to act in God's name. Part of this priesthood is having the power and authority to baptize in God's name. Jesus Christ Himself traveled about 40 miles to be baptized by John the Baptist because he had that priesthood authority. Jesus Christ gave this authority to His Apostles but after they were killed the priesthood was no longer on the earth. Much later, Joseph Smith was given this priesthood authority from John the Baptist and Peter James and John. This gave him the ability to baptize in the name of God. He then passed on that authority to others in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is the authority that is in the church today. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Kc
Our Father in Heaven loves us very much and wants us to get to know Him better. He has given us several ways to be able to do this. We can talk to Him through prayer and ask for answers and love. We can read the scriptures written by men that God has inspired. Also keeping God's commandments allows us to recieve blessings from Him and better feel His love and influence in our lives. By doing these things we can know that our Heavenly Father is there and that He loves us. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Kc
Have you ever had anything that made you happy like a favorite book or T.V. show? You probably wanted to be able to share it with other people around you. You shared it because it was something you really liked and it made you happy and you hoped it would make them happy as well. For the same reasons we go out and share our beliefs with others. Living in the Church has made me life so good and happy and fulfilling and I want to be able to share that with others so they can feel the same way. By going out and teaching people I can help them gain the same knowledge and happiness that I have. Show more Show less

What is the First Vision?

Kc
Joseph Smith grew up in a time and area where there was a lot of confusion about religion and what Christ's church was. He read in the Bible James 1:5 which says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of Godm that giveth to all men liberally, and upraideth nor; and it shall be given him." Joseph Smith took this to heart and decided to ask God. So he went into a grove of trees where he was alone and prayed to God and asked him which church was true and which he should join. After his prayer, God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph and told him that none of the churches at the time were the true Church of Jesus Christ. They told him that he was called to restore the church that Jesus Christ set up while He was on the earth. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Kc
Jesus Christ was baptized by immersion and set it as a necesary step for salvation. In order to be baptized he found John the Baptist who had the proper priesthood authority of God. We believe that in order to be baptized, we need to have that proper priesthood from God as well. When we are baptized we promise to God that we will keep the commandments he has given to us and that we will behave like Christ would on earth. In return God promises that he will forgive us and allow us back to live with Him again and that we can have the Holy Ghost with us to help us keep our side of the promise. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Kc
God has given us our bodies and expects us to take care of them as well as we can. We can do this by following the Word of Wisdom. This is revelation given to Joseph Smith in 1833. It talks about not using tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and illegal drugs. It also gives us directions about eating meat sparingly and eating lots of fruit, vegetables, and grains. Modern nutrition shows that the things given in the Word of Wisdom nearly two hundred years ago are correct and should be done. We are promised blessing of health for following the Word of Wisdom. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is oposed to abortion. It's not for us to decide who should ive and who should die and kiling an unborn baby because it is not wanted by it's parents is not right. There are very few instances where this is ok. The only situations where it should even be considered is when the life of the mother is in serious danger from the pregnancy or when the regnancy is the result of a rape and is extremely tramatic for the mother. Kc
Mormon services are great. They are divided into 3 one-hour blocks. The first and most important part is our sacrament service. This is where families sit together and sing hymns, listen to talks, and bear their testimonies. This is also where we get to take the sacrament in order to renew promises we made to God when we were baptized. After this part we go to sunday school to learn more about God and Jesus Christ. We attend classes depending on our age. Finally, we attend priesthood meeting for the men and relief society for the women. We love visitors to attend any or all of the meetings. If you wish to attend a service please feel free to do so. Show more Show less
